Decades after the founding of the People's Republic of China, many generals also reached the age of relegation to the second line or retirement, and when they had nothing to do, they sorted out their revolutionary life experiences and wrote memoirs for future generations to circulate.
In Wang Zhaoxiang's memoirs, an interesting phenomenon is that when he was the commander of the 6th Vertical and 18th Division during the Liberation War, he wrote this reminiscence about the commander of the column, and he did not write it by name or position, but replaced it with the head of the column. But the other superiors are reflected in the form of names.
He was born in the Red Army in northern Shaanxi, and was transferred to the Shandong Military Region during the Anti-Japanese War to serve as the commander of the military subdivision under the Bohai Naval Region. With the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, several military subdivisions under the jurisdiction of the Bohai Naval Region formed an independent brigade, and Wang Zhaoxiang served as the brigade commander and was ordered to go to the northeast. The main mobile force of the military region was changed to the 7th Division, and the commander Yang Guofu served as the division commander.
When going north to the northeast, Liu Qiren, deputy political commissar of the military region, led the team, and after arriving in Chengde, Liu Qiren went out of the customs and entered the northeast first. He led the troops to participate in the defense of Chengde, and accepted the temporary leadership of Xiao Ke, Yang Dezhi and other leaders.
After the end of the defense battle, he was ordered to go out of the customs and enter the North Manchurian base area, and has been under the leadership of Yang Guofu. After the establishment of the 6th Column in 1946, Commander Chen Guang, Deputy Commander Yang Guofu, and Deputy Political Commissar Liu Qiren, he served as the commander of the 18th Division.
In the spring of 1947, during the three operations in the south of the Yangtze River, the commander of the column was replaced, and Hong Xuezhi served as the commander.
However, in his memoirs, he has always replaced the head of the column, and did not call Commander Hong Xuezhi, Commander Hong, etc. For many people, they may not notice anything, but in fact, the relationship between the two is not smooth.
The 7th Brigade of the New Fourth Army of the 6th Column Division, the 7th Division and the Independent Brigade commanded by Yang Guofu, and the 19th Brigade of the Jireliao Military Region were formed and organized into the 16th, 17th, and 18th Divisions. The 16th Division was one of the first-class main divisions in the early days, and the 17th Division was good at attacking fortified positions and blasting, fully demonstrating its combat capability in attacking fortified positions, which was somewhat "mediocre" compared to the 18th Division.
However, he had a different feeling, such as not paying enough attention to the 18th Division when the troops completed combat missions, replenished troops, etc., or when leading combat missions. Therefore, he asked to leave and went to work in the rear military district. Perhaps because of these things, he has always replaced Commander Hong with the head of the column in his memoirs.
Some people say that he will not say that it is a political commissar?
6 Vertical is very special, since the establishment of the political commissar vacancy, after Hong Xuezhi took over, there is no political commissar. Then the head of the column naturally has only the commander, and the commander is responsible for the military aspect. The political commissar of the 6th column was in September 1947, when Wang Zhaoxiang was no longer in the 18th Division.
The chiefs who recalled other things mentioned it in their memories, and only one person was hidden, was it because of what happened during that time?
There are some difficulties in the work, communication is required, and sometimes it is normal to do some things because of operational needs. As an old qualified unit, the pressure on the 6th column is not small. It can be seen from the change of generals in the 16th Division that the 16th Division was originally supposed to be served by Peng Zhiming, but he left the front line after the Siping Defense, and the deputy division commander Wang Dongbao acted as the agent for a long time. The higher authorities successively transferred Liang Xingchu and Li Zuopeng as division commanders to strengthen the military role of the 16th Division, because other divisions were constantly surpassing the division, and this unit was also General Lin's old unit.
In his later years, he also replaced him with the head of the column, which shows that there are still some knots in his heart that have not been fully opened.
