Parents often leave messages in the background, saying that their children are always struggling not to do their homework after school, and the homework that can be completed in an hour always drags on for two or three hours.
How to stimulate children's enthusiasm for homework and make them change from "I want to write" to "I want to write" is undoubtedly a big challenge.
Is there any way to make children more conscious and active on the road to learning?
Here are my 3 suggestions, which are not only based on educational theories, but also incorporate the practical wisdom of countless families, I hope they will be helpful to you.
1. Create a positive learning atmosphere and let the environment become a boost
The impact of the environment on people is subtle.
Li Mei's son, Xiao Ming, was a child who procrastinated on his homework. After Li Mei observed, she found that the sound of the TV in the living room and the cooking in the kitchen often interrupted Xiao Ming's thinking.
So, she specially built a "study room" for Xiao Ming, which was neatly arranged with a desk, soft lighting, and a few books that interested him. Whenever after school, Xiao Ming will naturally walk into this small world and start his study time.
A quiet, clean and full of learning atmosphere can greatly enhance children's concentration and desire to learn.
We might as well start from the perspective of children and create an exclusive learning corner for them, so that children can feel that learning is something to be respected and expected.
At the same time, proper decoration and book placement can also stimulate children's curiosity and desire to explore, making learning more interesting.
2. Make a reasonable plan and cultivate time management skills
Making a plan and sticking to it is key to developing your child's time management skills.
Zhang Hui and his daughter, Xiaoyu, worked together to create a "homework schedule".
According to the school's curriculum and Xiaoyu's hobbies, they refine their daily learning tasks into hours. For example, a 10-minute break after school, followed by 30 minutes of focused math homework, followed by 15 minutes of English reading, followed by free time or family interaction.
Whenever Xiaoyu completes a task on time, Zhang Hui gives small rewards, such as telling an extra bedtime story or allowing him to watch one more episode of a cartoon.
By working with your child to create a schedule, they will not only learn to plan their own lives, but also feel the joy of participation and autonomy.
The appropriate reward mechanism is like a sweet catalyst, allowing children to gain a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction while achieving their goals, and then form a virtuous circle and complete their homework more consciously and actively.
3. Encourage exploration and creativity, and make learning fun
Traditional forms of homework tend to focus on memorization of knowledge and repetitive practice, which can easily make children feel bored.
Ms. Wang is a creative primary school teacher, and she often designs interdisciplinary project-based learning tasks, such as asking students to complete a hand-copied newspaper or PowerPoint presentation around the theme of "environmental protection", combining science, Chinese, art and other subject knowledge.
This form of homework is very popular with students, including Xiaojie, who is usually a little resistant to homework, also actively participated, he not only took the initiative to consult materials, but also made beautiful models, and finally won everyone's praise in the class display.
New homework methods, such as project-based learning and inquiry-based learning, encourage children to apply what they have learned to practice and solve problems through exploration and creativity.
Such a process not only stimulates children's interest in learning, but also develops their innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.
We can try more of this form of homework, so that children can "learn by playing" and "learning while playing", and truly experience the joy of learning.
Summary:
It requires the joint efforts of parents, teachers and children, from creating a positive learning atmosphere, cultivating time management skills to stimulating interest in learning, every aspect of the process is crucial.
When we listen to the needs of children with our hearts and guide them forward with love, we believe that children can bloom their own brilliance on the road of learning.
