【August 2024 Korean Car Sales Ranking】In recent years, the presence of Korean cars in the Chinese market has become less and less, and sales have continued to decline, especially in August, when new energy sales were booming, and Korean car sales fell by more than one-third. According to the data of the Passenger Car Association, the retail sales of the Korean car market in August 2024 will only be 16,210 units, a significant decrease of 33.9% year-on-year, and the market performance is bleak. If all Korean cars were treated as one car, they would not be able to enter the top 20 in the August car sales list. So, which Korean cars bucked the trend in August? Which models have fallen off the altar again? Let's take a look.
In August, Hyundai Elantra still held the top spot in Korean car sales, but retail sales were only 4,188 units, down 47.0% year-on-year. You must know that as the sales champion of Korean cars, Hyundai Elantra was able to maintain an average monthly sales of about 10,000 units last year. At present, the Elantra has also begun to sell to overseas markets, and export sales reached 2,750 units in August.
Hyundai Tucson sales also plummeted, ranking second with only 2,037 units sold in August, down 59.7% year-on-year. Now Hyundai Tucson not only has to face competition from Chinese brand SUVs, but the joint venture compact SUV with a sharp drop in price has also had a big impact on Hyundai Tucson's market sales.
The Kia Cetus performed steadily, ranking third in August with 1,996 retail sales. As an upgraded version of Aopao, the export sales of Cetus also reached 2,745 units in August, exceeding the retail sales in the domestic market.
Hyundai ix35 sales fell 47.2% year-on-year, and retail sales in August were only 1,543 units, ranking fourth, and sales have hovered around 1,500 units for three consecutive months. Last year, the Hyundai ix35 was able to maintain an average monthly sales level of more than 3,000 units, but since April this year, sales have been below 2,000 units, and sales have continued to decline.
All other Korean cars sold less than 1,000 units in August. Among them, the sales of the Kia K3, Kia Liontop, and Hyundai Sonata are close to 1,000 units, ranking fifth to seventh with sales of 988 units, 949 units, and 943 units, respectively. Among them, the sales of the all-new Sonata have fallen below 1,000 units for two consecutive months. However, Sonata's overseas sales reached 2,800 units this month, which can be regarded as a windfall.
Sales of the two Korean MPVs, Hyundai Kustu and Kia Carnival, continued to decline, with retail sales of only 653 and 153 units in August, down 50.9% and 25.4% year-on-year, respectively, ranking eighth and 14th.
As the cheapest joint venture sedan, Kia Huanchi sold only 27 units in the domestic market in August, and indeed few Chinese people can take a fancy to this new car. However, Kia Huanchi has been successful in overseas markets, with export sales reaching 5,897 units in August, becoming a powerful tool for Yueda Kia's export sales.
Kia Sonai, which was launched in China this year, was also not accepted by the Chinese people, with retail sales as low as 14 units in August, but the export sales of this new car reached 4,356 units, which is the "runner-up" model of Yueda Kia's export sales.
The sales of Korean cars are both good and bad, and the market pattern is quietly changing. Which model surprised you the most? Leave a comment to share your thoughts!
