Rowing, dragon boating, paddle boarding, road running...... In the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek, which has been frequently mentioned in recent years, many sports events take place every year, giving citizens the opportunity to taste the other side of the city that is born and thrived by water. This weekend, as the top landscape event on the Suzhou Creek and the golden sign in the independent brand event of Shencheng Sports, the Shanghai Rowing Open kicked off today, hoping to let everyone appreciate the charm of the "4.0 version".
At the Cherry Blossom Valley viewing point on the banks of Suzhou Creek, every time the participating boats rowed by, the scene will sound enthusiastic cheering, and this year's event arrangement, on the first day of the event, each round of shorter distance but more visually appealing 500-meter city sprint race, the speed of the sprint brought a tense and exciting viewing experience, so that many spectators were addicted. "The atmosphere is very strong, we bring the children over to have a look, let them know that rowing is also an Olympic sport, and it is worth feeling the atmosphere." Citizens who watched the game told reporters.
Last year, as an exhibition event, the junior category appeared on the stage for the first time, and now it has made its debut as a regular player. With the arrival of this group of young participants, the boat has also opened up a new situation, not only the average age of the runners has been reduced, but the radiation of the crowd has become wider - the "pyramid" of the boat has gradually appeared. In this year's youth competition, rowing teams from five schools: Shanghai Middle School, Shanghai Pao Yugang Experimental School, Shanghai World Foreign Language Middle School, Shanghai Private Pinghe School, and Shanghai Pudong New Area Private Vanke School participated in the competition.
Members of the rowing team from Shanghai Private Pinghe School said in an interview with reporters after the game that they were very happy to participate as a competitor for the first time, and they are very much looking forward to playing with the masters, "Today's performance is okay, the teammates are doing their best, but our course problem needs to be improved, when we are in the training ground, our course is a straight road, today the waters of Suzhou Creek are more complicated, and the wind is strong, which has a greater impact on our boat, but I think we played well, I love rowing because it makes us feel more teamwork and makes us stronger. ”
Shanghai is a city closely linked to rowing, and since the establishment of the regatta on the banks of the Huangpu River in 1852, Shanghai has a deep relationship with rowing for more than 100 years. In 2022, Shanghai reunited with rowing and won the right to host the 2025 World Rowing Championships, which is also the first time that the world's highest level of rowing will come to China. The 2025 World Rowing Championships will be held from September 21 to 28, 2025 at the Shanghai Aquatics Center.
