The MIDBARIUM, designed by A. Lerman Architects, is an outstanding park designed to evoke environmental awareness on the edge of the Be'er Shev Desert (MIDBAR means "desert"). The park showcases its open spaces, meticulously crafted details, and many elements of nature and the region's diverse wildlife. Experts from a multidisciplinary team from Israel worked together with overseas teams to complete the project. where A. Lerman Architects was responsible for the architectural design.

The design of the roof at the entrance is inspired by the traditions of the local desert tribes. Constructed from raw concrete, it symbolizes a tent structure covering 1,800 square meters and welcomes visitors into this cool, sheltered space. The structure was designed in close collaboration with structural engineer Rafi Bat, who became famous for his brutal buildings in Beer Sheva in the 60s: the City Hall and the University Library.

Unlike traditional brutalist architecture, which emphasizes weight and massing, this experienced concrete expert was extremely important in developing a delicate grid of triangular beams. The veil-like grid casts light and shadow, defining the boundaries of the public affairs space. Underneath the roof, a range of activities can be carried out, including interconnected walkways, kiosks, essential services, shops, a multi-purpose amphitheater, seating areas, and information touchpoints. These functions are arranged in an orderly manner at the entrances and exits of the park.

The roof brings fresh air into the adjacent educational building, and narrow passages bring fresh air into the building's circulatory system. The air conditioning was replaced by an ecological ventilation system, in line with Midbarium's commitment to sustainability.

"The aim of our design was to integrate local knowledge and the city's landmark concrete architectural heritage. We believe that this unique combination will create a unique atmosphere. By removing the barrier of air conditioning, desert air is introduced, and a new and innovative connection is established with the city. ”
