In order to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Minhang District Media Center, together with the District Archives Bureau (Hall) and the Party History Research Office of the District Party Committee, invites you to a feast of Shanghainese recitation - "Minhang Elegance in the Native Sound". In the familiar local sound, we relive the glorious history of 75 years, witness the pulse of urban construction, and feel the changes in people's livelihood and well-being. Let's use Shanghainese as a medium to inherit the red memory and draw a new chapter in Minhang!

The first 10,000-ton hydraulic press in New China was born
In June 1962, the first 12,000-ton hydraulic press designed and manufactured by mainland China was successfully installed and debugged in Shanghai Heavy Machinery Factory. This 10,000-ton hydraulic press can forge two or three hundred tons of large steel ingots, which can solve the needs of various sectors of the national economy, especially the industrial sectors such as power stations, metallurgy, chemicals, machinery and national defense, and it is the key core equipment of the heavy machinery factory. It makes the mainland the fifth country with the technology and ability to manufacture large-scale forging equipment of more than 10,000 tons after Slovakia United States, United Kingdom, West Germany and the Czech Republic, marking that the mainland's heavy machinery manufacturing industry has entered a new level.
In June 1962, the first 10,000-ton hydraulic press in New China was born.
Whether it can manufacture and own 10,000 tons of hydraulic presses is an important indicator of a country's heavy machinery manufacturing capacity. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the mainland's industrial base was still relatively weak, and the large forgings needed by the machinery industry mainly relied on imports. In order to change this situation and accelerate the development of the mainland's heavy machinery manufacturing industry, in June 1958, the Party Central Committee decided to manufacture 10,000 tons of hydraulic presses in Shanghai, and set up a design team with Shen Hong, vice minister of the Ministry of Machinery Industry of the country, as the chief designer, and Lin Zongtang, chief engineer of the Shanghai Heavy Machinery Factory, as the deputy chief designer. According to the usual method, the manufacture of such a grade of hydraulic press, must have the ability of extra-large steel casting, forging, heat treatment, machining, lifting and transportation, etc., must have a well-trained team of technical experts, must have a long experience in manufacturing heavy machinery. However, at that time, these three conditions were not available, and some Soviet experts even threatened that it was impossible for China to design and manufacture a 10,000-ton hydraulic press under the condition of "three shortages".
Although the conditions were difficult, under the leadership of Shen Hong and Lin Zongtang, in a year and a half, the designers traveled all over the country to investigate and understand the structure and principle of the hydraulic press, collect magazines, drawings, samples, photos, and analyze and compare. Later, two simulated test hydraulic presses were manufactured at a scale of 1:100 and 1:10. Through more models and repeated experiments, the overall design scheme of the 10,000-ton hydraulic press was finally determined after the first-hand information was obtained.
At the beginning of 1960, Jiangnan Shipyard formed a working team of about 200 people with 10,000 tons of hydraulic presses, and officially began to manufacture 10,000-ton hydraulic presses. During this period, despite the difficulties of the national economy, with the care and support of Premier Zhou Enlai, the 10,000-ton hydraulic press project was not stopped. With the strong support of Shanghai Heavy Machinery Factory and other brother factories, the workers of Jiangnan Shipyard are self-reliant, work hard, carefully produce more than 6,000 main engine parts, and have successively passed the five major levels of "electricity", "wood", "fire", "gold" and "water", namely electroslag welding, lifting and transportation of extra-large and extra-heavy parts, heat treatment of extra-large steel castings, metal cutting of extra-large workpieces, and water pressure test of four or five hundred atmospheres.
In December 1961, the general installation of the 10,000-ton hydraulic press began. In June 1962, the test run was successful, and the first 12,000-ton forging hydraulic press manufactured by mainland China was born.
