Obermoser & Partners collaborated with architect Hanno Schlögl to transform a 1978 grain silo in Austria into a modern storage and trading center for wood pellets. Gutmann Pellets Silo preserves the industrial heritage of the original site while incorporating new functional elements that bring the old and the new buildings together.
At the heart of the redevelopment is a "crown" – a glass box wrapped in precast concrete – that sits on top of the original structure. This expansion preserves the architectural character of the original site while creating a distinctive new profile. In addition, minimal exterior new construction ensures the building's original character.
Inside, new staircases and elevators have been strategically introduced into the original structure to preserve the original industrial character. A new art lounge has also been introduced on the rooftop, suitable for both business events and cultural gatherings. Here, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the industrial complex, as well as the surrounding landscape. The renovation was completed within a year, turning the once-neglected industrial complex into a new landmark.
