On October 8, Mr. Tira, Director General of the Customs Department of Thailand, together with Pan Tong, advisor to the Tax Development and Management Department, and other relevant department personnel, held a press conference to explain the situation of illegal import and export goods intercepted and seized by fiscal year 2024.
Tila said that the department has been following the instructions of Thailand Prime Minister Petuntan and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai to step up inspections and crackdowns on drugs and illegal goods. Since the beginning of FY2024 (October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024), the customs department has cracked a total of 39,282 cases involving a total of 2,607.36 million baht, and the notable seizure cases are as follows:
1. Methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, mad drugs and other drug cases: a total of 138 cases, worth 1,605.8 million baht;
2. Cigarette cases: 1,991 cases total, 37.75 million cigarettes worth 207.81 million baht seized;
3. E-cigarette and accessories cases: a total of 393 cases, 1.4 million pieces were seized, worth 145.63 million baht;
4. Cases of unlicensed products: a total of 3,483 cases, 36 million seized, worth 710.4 million baht;
5. Cases of infringement of intellectual property rights: A total of 545 cases, 1.14 million pieces worth 47.19 million baht were seized.
In addition, the Thailand customs department also revealed that the department's tax revenue in fiscal year 2024 totaled 624.304 billion baht, of which customs revenue was 117.949 billion baht, which is about 3.749 billion baht, or 3.28%, higher than the budget document. At the same time, the customs department is also continuously implementing measures to improve tax efficiency, aiming to further plug the loopholes in tax collection and management.
