During the National Day holiday, the video of the blogger "Mountain Fetch Painting Materials" entering Ailao Mountain alone to collect materials became popular on the Internet, making Ailao Mountain in Yunnan Province on the hot search to attract attention. The reporter learned from the Xinping Ailao Mountain Scenic Area that the number of tourists during this year's National Day holiday increased by 20.23% compared with last year.
On social networks, Yunnan Ailao Mountain is jokingly called the real-life version of "Yunnan Worm Valley". In fact, Ailao Mountain is not a mountain, but is located in the central part of Yunnan, across the Chuxiong Prefecture, Yuxi City, Pu'er City of Yunnan Province, a stretch of hundreds of kilometers of the Ailao Mountains, a total length of about 500 kilometers, is the boundary between the climate of the east and west halves of Yunnan Province, there is the largest primitive Zhongshan humid evergreen broad-leaved forest area in the country.
The Ailao Mountain Scenic Area is located in Xinping County, Yuxi City, in central Yunnan Province, and the middle and northern sections of the Ailao Mountains belong to the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve, where countless rare animals and plants have found safe habitats. Ailao Mountain is not only the cradle of life, but also a barrier to the fragile ecology.

What are the developed scenic spots in Ailao Mountain?
"I didn't pay much attention to it before, but after watching a short video, I kind of wanted to go." Ms. Yang, a tourist from Kunming, said. During this National Day holiday, there are not a few tourists like Ms. Yang.
It is reported that there are strict control measures for the entry and exit of the core area of Ailao Mountain, and the scenic spot that has been developed outside the core area is located in Xinping County, Yuxi City, which is the largest Huayi Dai settlement in China. At present, the whole scenic spot is complete, still retains the appearance of the primeval forest, the famous scenic spots include the ancient road of camellia horses in Ailao Mountain, which is about 8 kilometers long, the ruins of "horse stepping stone wearing", "Qianjiazhai", "iron-making furnace" and other sites, along the line also develop and construct Nan'en Waterfall, Dapingzhang Battle Site, Yunhai Sunrise, Shimen Gorge, Swallow Cliff Waterfall, Da Mo Rock Peak, Daxue Pot Mountain and other scenic spots, and the Gasa town located at the foot of the mountain is a well-known characteristic town in Yunnan.

Li Yuan, general manager of Xinping Ailao Mountain Tourism Development Co., Ltd., said that he was very happy to have so many tourists come to Ailao Mountain, but because there are more clouds and fog on the mountain, the road up the mountain is narrow and there are many U-shaped curves, once there are more tourists, the probability of accidents will also increase. In addition, the roads on the mountain are complex, and there may be unpredictable dangers such as getting lost, slipping, and encountering wild animals, so tourists need to obey the management requirements of the scenic spot and do not go to the forbidden area on their own. (Previously reported: Don't go deep!) Don't go deeper! Ailao Mountain Scenic Area suddenly exploded, and the official emergency reminder →)
Mr. He, a tourism practitioner in Yunnan, said that although the Ailao Mountain Scenic Area is still in the shape of a primeval forest, there is no so-called "mysterious risk", and the safety facilities are relatively complete. There are many outdoor enthusiasts who hike on the outskirts of Ailao Mountain, but visitors to this area must pay attention to safety, protect themselves, and do not venture deep into the mountains.
What's in the Ailao Mountain Nature Reserve?
Due to its unique natural geographical environment, Ailao Mountain has nurtured abundant wildlife resources.
Mei Zhanping, director of the Nanhua County Management and Protection Branch of the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan, told reporters that the Ailao Mountain Nature Reserve has rich wildlife resources. In recent years, the management of protected areas has ensured ecological security and species diversity in protected areas through strict regulatory restrictions and effective patrol work.

According to reports, there are many rare wild animals and plants living in the reserve, especially the migratory bird migration corridor. In order to protect these precious ecological resources, the management of the reserve has formulated a series of strict protection measures and legal restrictions. Since 2019, no vandalism such as bird hunting has been detected. Despite the hardships of the work, conservation efforts continue. In addition, the living and productive activities of indigenous peoples in protected areas will be subject to certain restrictions, especially during the core protection period and buffer period, and these activities must be carried out within the scope permitted by national laws and regulations.

Because of the unique natural environment and complex topography, tourists entering the Ailao Mountain Reserve will not only damage the ecological environment, but also have safety risks. Mei Zhanping said that the climate of Ailao Mountain is changeable, the hinterland is high and densely forested, and the woody remains of hollow trees and the soil with a lot of humus will increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the air, which may lead to a lack of oxygen.
"The scariest thing about entering a nature reserve is getting lost and hypothermia." Mei Zhanping said that rangers face threats such as mosquitoes, snakes and leeches while working. To do this, they must wear high shoes, apply mosquito repellent medication, and carry first-aid medicine with them. Therefore, ordinary tourists are not allowed to enter the Ailao Mountain Protected Area at will, except for the aboriginal residents and the management of the nature reserve.

Keep these things in mind!
In November 2021, four geological survey personnel died in the line of duty after entering the hinterland of Ailao Mountain to carry out their duties. According to the forensic examination and joint on-site investigation, the main reason for the death of the four people was excessive physical exertion caused by long-term mountain climbing, instantaneous strong winds in the area where the incident occurred, and a sudden drop in temperature.
Therefore, it is important to always pay attention to your surroundings when climbing the mountain
