Nowadays, the use of contact lenses to enhance the appearance of the common practice is not uncommon, but this method is not without its pitfalls.
According to many users who have been wearing contact lenses for a long time, they often experience uncomfortable symptoms such as dry eyes and foreign body sensation.
Some people even report that newly purchased lenses feel uncomfortable after a short period of use, and that even after the lenses have been soaked overnight, their eyes will still feel dry when they are worn the next day.
In response to these phenomena, people have begun to pay attention: what is the impact of long-term wear of contact lenses on eye health? Le Honghua, deputy director of the refractive center of Zhuzhou 331 Aier Eye Hospital, gave a professional interpretation.
Effects of long-term contact lens wear:
1. Decreased eye resistance: Long-term wear causes the cornea to be unable to directly contact the outside air, affecting its normal metabolism, thereby reducing the eye resistance. This can trigger dry eyes and even increase the risk of eye infections.
2. Dry eyes and fatigue: The close fit between the contact lens and the cornea can easily lead to insufficient tear secretion, resulting in uncomfortable symptoms such as dryness, soreness, pain and itchiness.
3. Risk of keratitis or conjunctivitis: Contact lens lenses can adsorb nutrients in tears, becoming a breeding ground for bacteria and inducing eye diseases. If lenses and care products are not cleaned and disinfected thoroughly, it can lead to inflammation of the cornea or conjunctiva, which can manifest as pain, photophobia, tearing, hyperemia and other symptoms, and may affect vision.
4. Corneal edema: Improper contact lens wearing may limit the water and oxygen metabolism of the cornea, causing corneal edema, resulting in blurred vision, photophobia, pain and other symptoms.
Are there any contact lenses that don't hurt your eyes?
In fact, unlike traditional contact lenses, ICL lens implantation (implantable eye endoscope) is not covered on the surface of the eyeball, but is implanted into the eye through minimally invasive surgery to achieve the purpose of correcting myopia, which can preserve the intact eye tissue to a large extent.
Compared with corneal laser correction surgery, ICL technology has a significant advantage in that the lens can be removed at any time, so it is also favored by more and more patients with low myopia.
It is worth mentioning that the service life of this lens is not fixed, and it can be stably placed in the eye unless there are special circumstances, providing long-term quality vision for myopia patients.
Advantages of ICL Lens Implantation:
At present, the lenses used for ICL lens implantation are imported from Switzerland and made of special patented materials. The materials used to make ICL crystals are similar to those of the lens of our human eye, and have the following characteristics:
1. High correction degree
It can correct 1800 degrees of myopia and 600 degrees of astigmatism. If the prescription is more than 1800 degrees, it can also be combined with the laser for correction. It can solve myopia and astigmatism at the same time.
2. Do not cut the cornea
The surgical incision is only about 2mm, and the retraction probability is much lower than that of laser surgery, which effectively reduces the probability of surgery-induced dry eye.
3. Good crystal stability
The crystals are made of a special material that has no foreign body sensation in the eye and has good stability, and the ICL crystal material has the characteristics of UV protection, which can block ultraviolet rays UVA and UVB.
4. Strong reversibility
Depending on the individual eye needs, the lens can be easily removed or replaced.
5. It can be used for life
The crystalline material is soft and compatible with human tissues, and has been proven to remain in the eye for a long time after accelerated aging testing, without the need for regular replacement.
6. Good postoperative visual effect
Because the lens is implanted close to the visual node (between the iris and the lens), postoperative vision is more high-definition and acute.
