In people's common perception, teachers should shoulder the role of a sacred mission and a heavy responsibility of preaching and teaching. However, a recent news story in the United States was a big surprise.
A high school teacher from Idaho, United States, was sentenced to at least 2 years in prison and up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual assault and violence against children, according to a report by People Network on October 9.
Jessica Lawson, 36, pleaded guilty to two counts of the charge as part of · plea agreement, according to online court records.
It also goes back to November 2023, when Jessica was arrested in St. Anthony, Idaho. The car she was in was stopped because the taillights were broken. Fortunately, the car was stopped, because the police found out that the driver was a teenage boy, and the car was full of alcohol, and Jessica, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was almost delirious.
Police reportedly said the boy confessed to smoking marijuana. The boy's parents told police that Jessica had picked up their son the night before. The boy then confessed that Jessica had provided him with alcohol and marijuana before the two had sex. After having a relationship, Jessica instigated the boy to drive.
It is reported that the victim's parents were not biological parents, but they provided the boy with a "foster home", and before that, he did not have "parents" to teach him right and wrong.
What is a foster home? In the United States foster care system, these children are taken from their families of origin that are not conducive to growth, and they are in dire need of a loving and warm family. Generally speaking, children in the foster care system are likely to be reunited with their family of origin after joining the foster family. But if this goal cannot be achieved, then the foster family can choose to formally adopt the child.
"Especially for a young man who is new to foster care, he never knows what it's like to have a mom and a dad." The father said in court.
"It took a long time for my son to heal, and he didn't even know what the wound on his body was. He will not understand these wounds until he becomes a parent and he sends his daughter or son to ...... to his trusted residence. The teenager's mother said that because of his long life in foster care, it was difficult for him to distinguish between safe and unsafe situations.
"We brought (my son) into the house because he needed to have a family, and he didn't have a family before...... But we soon realized that this was a very nice kid, he was great and he should stay in our house. The mother said in court.
"He had a lot of problems because he didn't have parents to teach him how to identify safe people. And you (Jessica) took advantage of that...... She knew she could get something from him. ”
In response, Jessica apologized to the victim and her family. She detailed an abusive relationship about herself that lasted 15 years, which she believes was a "catalyst" for her crime.
"I'm alone responsible for my actions, but I believe the [before] relationship was the catalyst that got me down the path I am today." Jessica defended, "I want to apologize to the victim and his family for any pain I caused. I want to apologize to the community and anyone I've let down.
The judge then learned that Jessica had been trapped in a "horrible" marriage and had been abused and humiliated for a long time. But the judge still stressed that a crime is a crime, and there is no excuse.
