preface
In order to prevent Lebanon from falling into the same chaos and misery as Gaza, the United Nations adopted a resolution to send peacekeeping troops, with the active participation of 40 countries, including China, in sending peacekeepers to Lebanon.
The soldiers were tasked with helping to maintain peace and stability in southern Lebanon and the Middle East as a whole, but the situation did not develop in the desired direction.
Originally, everyone hoped that with the presence of international peacekeeping forces, the situation would be eased, but who would have thought that Israel's hardline attitude not only did not relax, but intensified.
In the face of the UN's involvement, Israel did not stop, but repeatedly attacked the peacekeeping forces, and even directly broke into the peacekeeping base.
On 10 October, Israel again attacked the positions of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon, an act that shocked the international community and was immediately condemned by the countries that contributed the peacekeeping force.
What is even more unacceptable is that Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly asked the UN peacekeeping forces to follow Israel's instructions to ensure their own security!
Israel attacks on peacekeepers
Israel's repeated attacks on peacekeeping forces are undoubtedly a provocation to the United Nations and the international community as a whole.
In particular, in the case of 10 October, Israel forces forcibly attacked three United Nations peacekeeping positions in southern Lebanon without warning, resulting in numerous injuries.
Such an act not only shocked the outside world, but also angered the United Nations and the 40 countries involved in peacekeeping operations.
The peacekeeping forces dispatched by the United Nations are not ordinary troops, they are teams that carry out their tasks in accordance with Security Council resolutions, on behalf of the United Nations, and in full compliance with laws and regulations.
Their mission is also clear: to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East and, in particular, to reduce tensions between Lebanon and Israel.
However, Israel's action is undoubtedly a blatant provocation, not only violating international humanitarian law, but also flagrantly violating Security Council resolution 1701.
Israel's move not only put the peacekeeping forces in danger, but also plunged the entire international community into anger and uneasiness.
Although the Israel side has repeatedly argued that its goal is to fight Lebanon's Allah forces and that the peacekeepers are only victims of "accidental injuries", such explanations do not convince the international community at all.
After all, peacekeeping forces are sent by the international community to keep the peace, and they represent not just a country, but a symbol of global order and law.
40 countries condemned Israel
In the face of repeated attacks on Israel, the international community reacted swiftly.
Countries such as China, Russia and France, which send peacekeeping troops to Lebanon, have hardly hesitated to come forward and issue statements strongly condemning Israel's atrocities.
It is not just a question of the safety of peacekeepers, but also of the dignity of international peace and security.
These peacekeepers represent the will of all countries around the world and maintain the order of the international community, and Israel's actions are clearly a blatant challenge to this order.
In this wave of condemnation, China's position is particularly clear and tough.
Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, directly pointed out at an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council that Israel's attacks have seriously violated international law and must be stopped immediately.
Fu Cong also called on the international community to conduct a comprehensive investigation into Israel's actions and hold it accountable, after all, this is not a simple "accidental injury" that can be explained, but a contempt for the entire peacekeeping operation.
Countries have followed suit, making it clear that the safety of peacekeepers must be effectively guaranteed and that any attempt to harm them is unacceptable.
In addition to condemning Israel, States called on the United Nations to take more active measures to ensure the security of the peacekeeping force and the smooth running of its mission.
Especially in a complex region such as Lebanon, where peacekeeping forces are present not only to maintain peace, but also to prevent further escalation of conflict.
If the safety of these peacekeepers is not guaranteed, there will be even less hope for peace on the ground.
This incident has once again shown the world the toughness and arrogance of Israel and the difficult situation of peacekeepers in the conflict.
Peacekeepers are supposed to be there to maintain neutrality and peace, but in such an environment, their task is extremely difficult.
If the international community fails to take effective measures in a timely manner, the situation in the future may become more complicated and the situation of the peacekeeping force will be even more dangerous.
Israel threatens the UN
However, in the face of strong opposition from the international community and condemnation from many countries, Israel has not the slightest sense of fear.
On October 14, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video address in which he took a hard line and completely denied allegations that Israel had deliberately attacked UN peacekeepers.
Instead of apologizing for Israel's actions, he shifted the blame to the peacekeepers and Lebanon's Allah party, which is simply incredible.
In his speech, Netanyahu claimed that Lebanon's Allah forces had used the positions of the peacekeepers as cover to launch attacks on Israel.
According to him, Israel's military operations were carried out in response to Allah's attacks, and as for the attacks on the peacekeeping forces, they were only "self-inflicted" because they were not far from the war zone and were "innocently affected."
This explanation completely shirks Israel's responsibility and attempts to rationalize its own actions, but it is clear that the international community is not buying it.
Most surprisingly, Netanyahu also issued a blatant threat in his speech.
He spoke directly to the United Nations, saying that if the peacekeeping force wanted to ensure its own security, it must obey Israel's command and temporarily withdraw from the conflict zone.
In other words, Israel is not only unwilling to take responsibility for its attacks, but has tried to force peacekeepers to make way for Israel's military operations by threatening them.
This statement not only caused an uproar in the international community, but also angered many countries, because the duty of the peacekeeping force is to maintain peace neutrally, and no party should interfere in their actions, let alone obey the command of one side.
If the international community compromises Israel's demands, the presence of the peacekeeping force will lose its meaning and become an instrument of some countries rather than a guardian of peace.
Netanyahu's threat is undoubtedly further exacerbating international tensions and worsening Israel's image in global public opinion.
epilogue
Israel's intransigence in attacking UN peacekeepers and openly threatening countries is undoubtedly playing with fire in the international community, and in the face of such provocations, 40 countries have condemned in unison, demonstrating their determination to defend global peace.
However, the matter is far from over, Israel is unwilling to compromise, and even tries to manipulate the United Nations peacekeeping operation through threats, this hegemonic behavior has not only aroused the anger of various countries, but also made the world once again witness the complexity and danger of the situation in the Middle East.
Peacekeepers are tasked with maintaining peace, but their work is becoming more difficult in this extreme environment, and the international community must step up and take stronger measures to ensure the safety of these soldiers, neutrality and justice.
If this threat is not resolutely addressed, the situation in the future may become more difficult to control and the relevance of peacekeeping mandates will be questioned.
So what the international community needs now is not just condemnation, but action.
