Introduction: The novel takes the bankrupt life in the rural areas of southern Taiwan during the Japanese occupation as the background, and through the description of the rise and fall of coffee farms, it profoundly reflects the withering of Taiwan's rural economy, shows the pure and sincere love of young men and women, and praises the spirit of resistance and struggle to break through feudal customs. In Taiwan under Japanese rule, although the Kasayama farm changed owners three times, it could not change the fate of failure.

To Oak Tree:

The table under the acacia tree had been moved back into the gazebo. It was nearly noon, and more than thirty tables were almost full, but the greetings still came in an endless stream, and the farm temporarily borrowed five pairs of tables and stools from the Feishan Temple in the east.

There was a greeter, a slender man who was half a hundred years old, with his waist at his waist, and came to the court. He carried a black cloth umbrella on his shoulder, and at the end of the umbrella hung a bag pendulum. His head was thrust forward, his head was swinging his tail as if he were swimming, all the way through the gazebo.

Liu Shaoxing was full of smiles, holding the armrest of the rattan chair with both hands slightly understood, and was trying to say hello. But Zeng Yuncai over there shook his head at him, meaning to tell him not to make a sound, not to move.

Sister-in-law Ah Xi, who was sitting at the table under the eaves, was shocked when she saw the man's characteristic style.

"Ah, 'Crazy to fuck' has come here!" She said in a low voice.

Zhi Ping's mother followed Ah Xi's sister-in-law's line of sight and also looked over there. I saw a skinny man, recklessly walking past the gazebo and running toward the main hall.

"Who? Ah hey sister-in-law! Old Lady Liu was inexplicable.

"'Crazy to fuck'!" That's the man! ”

"Crazy?" Old Lady Liu was even more confused.

"Ah yo, look!"

Sister-in-law Ah Xi found herself negligent and did not find it funny. Where will Mrs. Liu know these things, this should be explained by her. She told Mrs. Liu a story.

This man was from the town, and his name was Feng Guogan, but people tended to pronounce him "crazy and dry". He put the golden pot of gold from his ancestors four generations below: the skeleton of the clay. It will be buried this month, and it will be dug up next month, saying that it is to find a better feng shui burial. He didn't do anything, and he was out all year and month, looking for a good feng shui place.

The result is that a family property has been destroyed, and the good feng shui land has not been found, and the golden pot has to be placed under which rock shade - "sending rocks". At the head of his line was a cloth umbrella with a bag hanging from the end of the umbrella, a pair of slippers and a set of clothes for washing. He took the cloth umbrella out of the door, and when he went to the house, he always stayed for half a month and ten days, and he had to wait for the master to issue an eviction order before leaving, so everyone was afraid of him.

"This man is a little crazy," said Sister-in-law Ah Xi, "so I should pay little attention to him." ”

The Struggle for Secular Marriage: The Defense of Dignity and Love

Zhong Lihe (1915-1960), originally from Meixian County, Guangdong Province, was born in a peasant family in Pingtung County, Taiwan, and is one of the founders of Taiwanese vernacular literature and has an important position in the history of modern Taiwanese literature. At the age of 19, he fell in love with a girl in the village, and because he was also surnamed Zhong, his father firmly disagreed with this family affair.

But in order to fight against this outdated concept of marriage, he boldly led his Taiwanese sister to "elope" and fled to Dalian, Shenyang, and Beiping in the northeast of the mainland to make a living, and did not return to Taiwan until the end of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1946. Most of his works are set against the backdrop of Taiwan's rural society, which provides an important clue for us to understand Taiwan, especially the Hakka society in Taiwan, and the material life and spiritual outlook of the Taiwanese Hakka.
