Book Author / Zhong Lihe
Zhong Lihe (1915-1960), originally from Meixian County, Guangdong Province, was born in a peasant family in Pingtung County, Taiwan, and is one of the founders of Taiwanese vernacular literature and has an important position in the history of modern Taiwanese literature. At the age of 19, he fell in love with a girl in the village, and because he was also surnamed Zhong, his father firmly disagreed with this family affair.
But in order to fight against this outdated concept of marriage, he boldly led his Taiwanese sister to "elope" and fled to Dalian, Shenyang, and Beiping in the northeast of the mainland to make a living, and did not return to Taiwan until the end of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1946. Most of his works are set against the backdrop of Taiwan's rural society, which provides an important clue for us to understand Taiwan, especially the Hakka society in Taiwan, and the material life and spiritual outlook of the Taiwanese Hakka.
