Ding Jian was born in Beijing in 1965. After graduating from Peking University with a degree in chemistry, he studied abroad and obtained a master's degree in information science from the University of California.
Ding Jian is intellectually superior. It is said that when he was in peking university, he often skipped class, never took a linear algebra class, 3 days before the exam, he went to Haidian Book City to buy a higher education self-study series, did all the above questions, and got a full score in the final exam.
Not only did he skip class himself, but he also went to the Academic Affairs Department in the name of the head of the student union to fight for the legitimacy of truancy. In his opinion, some classes sit there and listen, and it really doesn't mean much.

In 1993, Ding Jian, Tian Sooning and others founded the AsiaInfo Company in Texas. Their company is located off a street in Dallas called Tomorrow. The earliest angel investor was named Liu Yaolun, a patriotic overseas Chinese and the first chairman of AsiaInfo.
At that time, there was a delegation from Dallas in China, and Ding Jian assisted in the reception. He called the Dallas city government, and the municipal government introduced him to Liu Yaolun, president of the Sino-American Chamber of Commerce.

Everyone had an appointment, and Ding Jian and Tian Sooning briefed Liu Yaolun on the situation of the delegation and Asin's next steps. In the end, Liu Yaolun decided to invest in AsiaInfo, which was the only non-real estate project investment in his personal investment career
Liu Yaolun later said that he decided to invest, and it is very important that Ding Jian and Tian Shuning did not want to hide anything, but unreservedly showed what they wanted to do.
At the beginning of 1995, the three main creators of AsiaInfo returned to China and established AsiaInfo Technology (China) Company. At that time, the second largest telecommunications company in the United States chose AsiaInfo as the implementer of building a communications network in China. China Telecom saw it and felt that American companies had chosen CICA, and Chinese companies had no reason not to choose CICA.
AsiaInfo has undertaken six national backbone network projects, including China Telecom ChinaNet, China Unicom CUNet, China Mobile CMNet, and China Netcom CNCNet, and completed all of this in only 3 years.
In May 1999, Tian Washining was invited to become the newly established CEO of China Netcom, and Ding Jian changed from CTO to CEO. However, he does not like to be a CEO very much, because he feels that he is good at dealing with technology, but he is not particularly good at dealing with people, and he is psychologically repulsive.
AsiaInfo
On March 3, 2000, AsiaInfo listed on nasdaq in the United States, raising US$120 million, becoming the first Chinese high-tech company to be listed on the NASDAQ. But a month later, the Nasdaq collapsed, and Ding Jian had only one idea: to stabilize the "boat" first.
As a pioneering elder, Ding Jian personally held 15% of TheAin shares at that time. Based on Forbes' calculations, his value is about $800 million.

In 2004, Ding Jian divorced his ex-wife. On January 28, 2005, he married Xu Gehui, a famous female anchor of Phoenix SATELLITE TV, on a trip to South Africa. Due to the close time between the front and back, the outside world has always had all kinds of criticisms about Xu Gehui. Some people pointed out that her and Ding Jian's happiness was based on the pain of Ding Jian's ex-wife. In the entrepreneurial stage of Ding Jian, Ding Jian's ex-wife returned to Beijing from the United States for her beloved and bore him children.
Xu Gehui
In the traditional concept of Chinese, this undoubtedly belongs to a drama of "third party intervention" and "negative people abandoning the wife of the chaff". In an interview with reporters, Ding Jian denied that his divorce was related to Xu Gehui, but instead said that the divorce was out of responsibility.
"The higher the level of life, the higher the demands of both parties for quality of life, freedom and happiness. I can honestly say that the breakdown of my marriage with my ex-wife has nothing to do with the appearance of Ge Hui, but due to many accidental and inevitable factors. He said.
He also told reporters that the divorces of some successful people he contacted were rarely caused by the intervention of third parties. As for the reasons for the divorce, he euphemistically said that in entrepreneurial families like them, couples are often not together or have no time to communicate, and the pressure on families is much greater than that of ordinary people.
Since there is no time to communicate these contradictions, it is easy to live a good life. When both parties can't stand it and have to break up, they should think more about how to responsibly address the various effects and consequences, such as the problem of children.
It is said that when Ding Jian filed for divorce, his daughter and his ex-wife were less than ten years old, and his son had just turned five months old.
Ding Jian and Xu Gehui met in the Lantern Festival in 2002, and the second annual meeting of Chinese entrepreneurs was held in Yabuli, and Xu Gehui served as the guest host of the meeting. The next day, everyone went to the ski resort to play, and when Xu Gehui pulled up the slipping Ding Jian, he found that the 37-year-old man was actually helpless, embarrassed like a big child.
Xu Gehui later recalled their first meeting and smiled: "We are not love at first sight, we can be regarded as a long-term love." If there was no later development, the first time he met, he would be as ordinary as Zhang San and Li Si. ”
Although she has a good feeling for Ding Jian, she reminds herself to stay away, but Ding Jian can't forget her. After several internal struggles, he finally plucked up the courage to confess to his wife that he was in love with someone else. After that, he made a phone call to Xu Gehui: "Am I qualified to say I love you?"
Why can Ding Jian attract Xu Gehui? Xu Gehui once said in an interview with the media that she has come into contact with many excellent people in her work life, but she understands that she is looking for the right person, not the perfect person. Ding Jian has a kind of calmness that lifts weights lightly, and he can easily resolve the troubles in life.
"The most memorable thing was the one I made up my mind to do myopic surgery. The night before, I hesitated and scared again. I asked him, if I were blind you would still love me? He said I have to think about it, if you are blind, you will not be able to play golf with me in the future, you can only pick up the ball for me. I said that picking up the ball must also be seen, and in hindsight, he is such a person, using humor to resolve your worries. ”

In 2005, Xu Gehui was overjoyed and returned to the workplace after maternity leave. Talking about the various criticisms of the outside world against her at that time, she has long been relieved. "Well done, you have to marry well." It's not about marrying a rich man, but a companion whose soul can resonate! Because feelings are something that is too rich and too delicate. ”
This year, Ding Jian also resigned as CEO of AsiaInfo and joined GSR Venture Capital Fund, a venture capital firm specializing in investing in start-ups.
In addition to semiconductors, new energy, etc., there are also representative companies in the O2O field, such as Didi Dache and Ele.me. But in Ding Jian's eyes, companies like Didi Taxi or Ele.me are not the "terminators" who will eventually induce qualitative changes in the entire industry.
"The concept of small fish and shrimp is easy to fish, but once you go to the deep water to catch big fish, it may eventually be the industry(platform)." He said.
