As a result, ugly books have been strongly criticized by calligraphy enthusiasts. Although some ugly calligraphers used Western art theory as a guide, at this time they remembered the ancients and traditions, and brought out the Ming Dynasty great calligrapher and Taoist master Fu Shan's "Ning Ugly Rather Than Charming" to defend themselves, which actually distorted Fu Shan's original intention.
This sentence comes from Fu Shan's poem "Writing Books to Show Children and Grandchildren" and notes, the original text is: Writing characters first become people, and people have been strange characters since ancient times. This poem naturally needs no more words, but continues the theory that calligraphy has been passed down from ancient times, that is, words are like their people. Calligraphy has been explained from different angles throughout the ages, but the central idea has never changed. Fu Shan, too, also stressed that if you want to write well, you must first be a good person. In fact, Fu Shan then elaborated in depth the theory of "writing as a person" to see what he said in the "notes" of this poem.
Fu Shan said: "When the poor Dao was about twenty years old, the calligraphy of the Jin and Tang Dynasties that was passed down in the previous generations was everywhere, and it could not be slightly revealed. Occasionally, Zhao Ziang and Dong Xiangguang inkblots, love their circle and flowing beauty, so they come to it, and they want to mess with the truth without counting. "Fu Shan, like the great calligraphers of history, believed in Taoism, so he called himself poor Dao. The gist is that when he was in his mid-twenties, he copied a large number of Fa Ti of the Jin and Tang Dynasties, but it was difficult to have a little similarity. I accidentally got the ink of Zhao Mengfu and Dong Qichang, and liked their smooth circles, so I began to write, and I could do the same as the original work after only a few times.
Fu Shan used this to illustrate that the words of Zhao Mengfu and Dong Qichang were easy to use. In fact, from the perspective of today's people, Zhao Dong's words are not easy to get started, but ugly books are easier to get started, and the four- or five-day training courses often held by the Zhongshu Association are proof that if there is no effect, it will definitely stop long ago. Even for scholars such as Zhao and Dong, who were not far from the second king, Fu Shan held a negative attitude, which showed that Fu Shan adhered to tradition. Fu Shan then explained why such a result occurred, saying: "This is without him, that is, like a man who learns to be a gentleman, he only feels that it is difficult to get close; when he travels with bandits, he does not feel that his relatives are getting closer and closer, and those who do not have me are also." His deeds are big and thin, and he is hated by people, and his books are as simple as the bonelessness of King Xu Yan. The Lu Gong learned by the ancestors of the Fourth and Fifth Emperors of the First Restoration Sect suffered from it. However, the wrists are mixed, and they can't be as thin and tough as the ancestors. Compared to the bandits, it hurts. I don't know what Dong Taishi saw, so he called Meng Fu one of the five hundred years. The path of poverty is the great solution of today, and it is the great solution of this day. ”

This is a work of manhood. However, it must be known that Zhao is a person who is attentive to Wang's right army, only because his learning is not correct, so he flows soft beauty all the way. The same is true of the heart and hands. Danger! Danger! Be careful. Thousands of miles, how can it not be. Ning clumsy is not clever, Ning ugly is not charming, Ning zhi is not slippery, Ning Zhen is not arranged, enough to return to the pool and fall into the waves. ”

The gist is: although Zhao Mengfu learned Wang Xizhi, but the road is crooked, the heart and hand must be unified, in the process of learning, the slightest difference will lead to a difference in results of thousands of miles. At this point, Fu Shan's meaning is very clear, the so-called Four Nings and Four Is not a method of correcting errors in the process of learning books, not the ultimate goal, and the ugly book writers regard it as the goal of pursuit, is this not a joke?
