The Langham Place elevator accident in Hong Kong was caused by a double error and the preliminary investigation was completed in two months as soon as possible

After the reverse operation accident of the escalator in the Langham Place mall in Hong Kong last Saturday (25th), multiple departments launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Today (No. 29), Pang Yiu-hung, Assistant Director of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of Hong Kong, said that after investigation, it was found that all three drive chains of the accident elevator were broken, and at the same time, the signal was not generated to start the auxiliary brake to stop the elevator operation. He said it was rare for an escalator to make a double mistake. Xie Jinghua, chairman of the Hong Kong Elevator Industry Federation, said that the drive chain of the elevator is made of synthetic metal, which is very strong, and fracture is very rare.

At present, there are still more than 10 people involved in the investigation work of the Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, which needs to analyze the information on elevators, and the preliminary investigation is expected to be completed within two or three months.
