At present, catheter ablation therapy has become the mainstream choice to reduce the recurrence of atrial fibrillation and improve the quality of life of patients with atrial fibrillation. However, the complexity of the patient's condition varies, the level of diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation is uneven, and not all patients with atrial fibrillation can enjoy the benefits of catheter ablation therapy.

The benefits are coming! With the holding of the "Wisdom Tour of 100 Cities - Quancheng Atrial Fibrillation Summit Forum" activity, on March 27, Professor Liu Xu, director of the Atrial Fibrillation Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of the earliest doctors in China to carry out radiofrequency ablation, will lead the team to sit in the Shandong Branch of the Atrial Fibrillation Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to allow Shandong atrial fibrillation patients to enjoy the high-quality medical services of domestic top experts at their doorstep.

Atrial fibrillation catheter ablation should be treated sooner rather than later

Most of the onset of atrial fibrillation is unconscious, the symptoms are mild, and they are not immediately fatal, however, over time, once they change from the initial paroxysmal atrial fibrillation to persistent atrial fibrillation, once the "mine" is triggered, causing complications such as stroke and heart failure, it may miss the opportunity for treatment or even fatal.

Wang Ying, director of the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, introduced that for patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation, catheter ablation is an effective way to reduce the recurrence of atrial fibrillation and improve the quality of life of patients compared with drug therapy. Usually, surgery for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and persistent atrial fibrillation within 1 year is the most effective and has a higher success rate. However, in the clinic, some patients will give surgical advice after the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation, but they will struggle with whether they should do catheter ablation surgery, although they feel some chest tightness, panic, shortness of breath discomfort, but they can still endure, surgery and so on. Therefore, the surgical treatment was shelved in hesitation, however, the left atrium was gradually enlarged, the symptoms became more and more severe, and even stroke occurred, and the patient regretted not operating earlier.

"In fact, for patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation, catheter ablation should be treated sooner rather than later." Wang Ying said that atrial fibrillation is a progressive disease, in the process of developing from paroxysmal atrial fibrillation to persistent atrial fibrillation, and further progressing to permanent atrial fibrillation, the pathological changes of the heart include atrial enlargement, inflammation, atrial muscle cell damage, etc., which in turn leads to atrial fibrosis, and the occurrence of atrial fibrosis can promote the progression of atrial fibrillation. Therefore, it is advisable to break this vicious circle early ablation and intervene in the progression of atrial fibrillation.

The team has completed more than 30,000 cases of atrial fibrillation catheter ablation

Since October 1998, when the country took the lead in carrying out atrial fibrillation catheter ablation, the atrial fibrillation ablation technology of Professor Liu Xu, director of the Atrial Fibrillation Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has always led the country. The number and quality of radiofrequency ablation that Professor Liu Xu has personally completed are among the best at home and abroad. In 2010, his team became the first center in China with more than 1,000 atrial fibrillation cases, and in 2012, it became the first center in China with a total number of atrial fibrillation ablation cases exceeding 10,000 cases. To date, 50,000 cases of catheter ablation for arrhythmias have been completed, including more than 30,000 cases of atrial fibrillation catheter ablation, ranking first in the Asia-Pacific region for eight consecutive years.

On the basis of a large number of practices, Professor Liu Xu led the team to condense the advanced concept of atrial fibrillation treatment - atrial fibrillation rotor ablation by clarifying the location of the lesion, using new standard measurement technology, and more accurately implementing radiofrequency ablation, which greatly improved the success rate of atrial fibrillation catheter ablation surgery.

Combining strength and power, patients benefit. Experts from the Department of Cardiology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Atrial Fibrillation Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University cooperated to fully integrate medical resources, and in September 2018, the Shandong Branch of the Atrial Fibrillation Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was established. Under the leadership of Professor Liu Xu, chief expert of the Center, the success rate of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation ablation reached 92.0%, and the success rate of persistent atrial fibrillation ablation reached 75.7%.

On March 27th, the "Wisdom Patrol hundred cities - Quancheng Fang fibrillation summit forum" will be held in Jinan. On the same day, Professor Liu Xu will lead a team of experts to sit in Shandong, so that atrial fibrillation patients in Shandong can enjoy the high-quality medical services of top experts in China at their doorstep.

The expert team performs the operation at the same time as the free consultation activities. From 8:30 to 11:30 on March 27, in the consultation hall of Building 1 of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the expert team of The Shandong Branch of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Atrial Fibrillation Diagnosis and Treatment Center, will conduct free consultations and consultations for the majority of patients.
