To create convenient conditions for enterprises to export fresh lychees, Vietnam Lao Cai International Port implemented supporting measures to assist enterprises in electronic customs declarations by strengthening the implementation of relevant port regulations, and strengthen the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and promote customs clearance facilitation.

From the beginning of the year to May 15, the total import and export volume of Lao Cai International Port reached 579 million US dollars, of which the export amount reached nearly 400 million US dollars, and the main export products were dragon fruit, mango, watermelon, jackfruit, wood, tapioca starch and other agricultural products and fruits.

In addition, the Vietnamese government has approved 190 Chinese traders to enter Vietnam to purchase lychees in the northern province of Bac Giang. They will enter from the border crossing in Lang Son Province and must provide a negative certificate of COVID-19 issued by the relevant Chinese authorities. Before they visit Lychee Farm, they will need to be tested and quarantined again for COVID-19.

According to Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Bac Giang has 28,000 hectares of lychee planting area and is expected to produce about 180,000 tons this year, an 8% increase over 2020. The season begins at the end of May and the harvest lasts for two months. The local Ministry of Industry and Trade estimates that if the outbreak is brought under control, about 47 percent of lychee production will be exported to China, 2.5 percent to Japan, Australia, the European Union and the United States, and about 28 percent to China if the outbreak worsens but remains under control.
