Xie Hongyang, Wang Yirou and Cai Yilin, three children of the sixth grade of the primary school affiliated to Xiamen Foreign Chinese School, with the help of instructors Huang Fuyu and Chen Guiying, spent 8 months to investigate and summarize the "Xiamen Intertidal Sea Guide".
This guide won the first prize of the province in the "36th Fujian Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition". The three children said that they should use this "guide" to introduce the correct "sea-catching posture" to citizens and tourists, provide help for more people, and call on more people to protect the marine environment while promoting marine tourism culture.
The "Guide" details the preparation for catching the sea, the tools for catching the sea, the risk assessment, and the situation of the five major sea areas in Xiamen, such as the intertidal zone of Guanyin Mountain, the intertidal zone of the Coconut Wind Village, the intertidal zone of wutong lighthouse, the intertidal zone of Wuyuan Bay, and the intertidal zone of Jimei Bridge.
Among them, the children also listed practical eight-point arithmetic methods. They said that the tide in Xiamen is basically a regular "half-day tide", and the "eight-point tide calculation method" can be used to calculate at the high tide, which is simple and practical. The first half of the lunar calendar: high tide time = (lunar date -1) ×0.8; the second half of the lunar calendar: high tide time = (lunar date - 16) ×0.8. The difference between the two highs is 12 hours and 24 minutes, and the difference between high tide and low tide time is 6 hours and 12 minutes. For everyone's convenience, the children also detailed the tidal schedule of Xiamen seawater.

Even some of the details, such as how to deal with accidentally getting stuck in the mud, are reflected in the Guide. "When encountering a silt intertidal zone, every step must be careful to explore the way, otherwise it is easy to sink into the silt!" The children said, "In case you fall into the mud and it is difficult to pull up, please immediately use the kneeling style, the legs are in the shape of eight, and use the entire calf to press against the taro mud to increase the force area and avoid sinking deeper and deeper!" ”
At many sea chases, they photographed many marine benthic creatures: Orchidback Sea Hare, Black Fingerprint Sea Hare, Feather Starfish, Sea Anemone, Longitudinal Muscle Anemone, Plough Anemone, Star Worm, Sand Silkworm, Sea Urchin, Ctenophore, Sea Mothfish, Chinese Horseshoe, Drum Shrimp, SeaHorse, Puffer Fish, Tongue Fish, Suspicious Pterodactyl Ginseng, Square Pillar WingEdam, Lychee Sponge, Sea Caterpillar, Starfish, Snake Tail, Eel Fry, Short-toed Monk Crab, Fist Crab, Strong Diamond Crab, Hermit Crab, Barnacles, Stone Turtle, Gorgonian Coral, Tongue Gills, White Sand Gills, Hastelloy cactus sea cheeks, wheel snails, shallow slit bone snails, lychee snails and so on.
