author:Huan Xiaowei

"I just came out of the lab." At 7:08 p.m. on October 27, Yang Jingjing sent a WeChat message to reporters. After ten minutes of preparation, we connected the video call with her.

At the end of the video, Yang Jingjing wears a mask, her eyes reveal fatigue, and the stranglehold left by wearing the mask for a long time is still clearly visible on her face. After 8 hours of testing nucleic acid samples in the lab, she finally took off her sweltering protective suit and changed into her own clothes.

This is the third day she came from Zhuanglang to Lanzhou Second People's Hospital to support the fight against the epidemic.

"More than an hour before I left, I knew I was going to Lanzhou to support"

Yang Jingjing, a native of Zhuanglang County, Pingliang City, Gansu Province, just turned 25 last month and has been working in the laboratory department of Zhuanglang County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital after graduating from Gansu Medical College in 2019.

"She is young, has been doing nucleic acid testing, has strong professional ability and adaptability, and has good qualities in all aspects." The director of the clinical department of Zhuanglang County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital commented on Yang Jingjing.

On October 24, 2021, after receiving the notice of the Municipal Health Commission on the dispatch of nucleic acid testing personnel to Lanzhou to support the fight against the epidemic, Zhuanglang County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital sent Yang Jingjing from the department of laboratory to join the 15-person medical team set up in Pingliang City to carry out epidemic prevention and control work in Lanzhou.

"I was in such a hurry on the day of departure that I didn't have time to prepare anything." Yang Jingjing was in danger.

"More than an hour before I left, I knew I was going to Lanzhou to support. It wasn't until I got on the bus to Lanzhou that I remembered to call my mother. At first, she didn't believe it, saying that there were so many people in the hospital, how could it be your turn? Later, when I knew that I was really going, I began to worry, and I was always told to pay attention to protection and take care of myself. ”

"This is my first time to go to the field to participate in the anti-epidemic support work, and when I just turned 25, it was quite meaningful." Yang Jingjing on the other side of the video said with a smile.

"Stay in the lab for 8 hours, don't dare to drink water before you go in"

At 11:00 p.m. on October 24, 15 doctors, including Yang Jingjing, arrived at the Lanzhou Second People's Hospital, the work site to support the fight against the epidemic. They test more than 30,000 nucleic acid samples a day, and more than 40,000 tests a day when they are busy.

It only takes 10 seconds to complete the nasal and throat swab samples of the new coronavirus, and after being sealed and sent to the laboratory, it will take more than 4 hours to produce the test results. The 15 doctors were divided into 3 groups of 5 people in each group, with a 24-hour shift of 8 hours per shift, and a group of laboratory physicians worked that night.

"When I was in Zhuanglang (Chinese Medicine Hospital), there were up to 2 nucleic acid detection extraction plates per day, and only 1 amplification machine was running, and I could clearly hear the sound of the machine running during the night shift. Now, the daytime shift has to detect nearly 30 plates, and at night, a little less, about 20 boards are detected. 17 augers were running at the same time, and I couldn't hear the sound when I was busy. ”

In addition to the heavy workload, wearing protective clothing for a long time is also a big challenge for inspectors. Inspectors are in direct contact with the sample and are at constant risk of infection. Before entering the laboratory, the inspectors should use various protective equipment to seal themselves.

"The inside of the protective clothing is particularly hot, and after a while of putting it on, there will be water mist on the mask, and it will condense into water droplets after a long time." I have to stay in the laboratory for 8 hours, so in order to avoid going to the toilet in the middle, I don't dare to drink water before I go in, and I really have to hold back when I want to go up. Because after going out, not only delay time, but also waste a set of protective equipment. ”

"When the epidemic is over, I want to take a good look around Lanzhou"

After 3 days in Lanzhou, Yang Jingjing has not been out of the hospital gate and lives a life of two points and one line in the laboratory and dormitory. "I usually love to go out and play, but now I don't have time, and I don't dare to go out, after all, the nature of the work is relatively special."

"I pay attention to the changes in the epidemic every day, and when I see new cases, I am very worried. Some of these new cases were detected by us. As an examiner, I want every nucleic acid test result to be negative. ”

Asked about what she most wanted to do after the end of the epidemic, Yang Jingjing said: "I don't come to Lanzhou often, this time I found that many shops are closed, and the streets are cold and clear. When the epidemic is over and my work tasks are completed, I want to take a good look around Lanzhou. ”

"Jingjing, let's go to dinner!" At 8:28 p.m., the voice of Yang Jingjing's colleague came from the other end of the screen, interrupting our video interview. We realized that Dr. Yang had not eaten since 11 a.m.

After a six-and-a-half-hour break, at 3 a.m., she was back here for the night shift. Yang Jingjing said: "The testing work can not be stopped, the earlier the test results, everyone can be a little more at ease." ”
