According to the US Chinese Network, de Santis, a Republican governor of Florida, filed a lawsuit on the 28th against the Biden administration's new crown vaccine injunction against federal contractors, which is the latest attack launched by Republicans on President Biden's response to the epidemic.
The lawsuit, filed in a federal district court in Tampa, called the policy a "radical violation of the autonomy of individual U.S. laborers" and sought a nationwide initial injunction to prevent the vaccine order from going into effect.
The lawsuit lists U.S. President Joe Biden and individual federal agencies, including NASA, the General Services Administration (GSA), and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
The Biden administration's policy, which is scheduled to take effect on Dec. 8, will require all federal workers and contractors to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and does not offer an alternative to regular testing.
DeSantis has already fought with the Biden administration over a number of COVID-19 policies. He prohibited local governments from issuing vaccine orders or requiring any form of vaccination certificate. He also banned schools from enforcing masks for students and withheld funds from schools that insisted on doing so.
DeSantis said the vaccine order would force people out of work and threaten the livelihoods of contractors across the state.
The Florida lawsuit isn't the only attempt across the country to block similar demands. In other cases, judges have largely supported the private sector that implements vaccination requirements.
Earlier this week, a Judge in Texas dismissed a ban request made on behalf of a union representing Southwest Airlines pilots. Southwest Airlines, as a contractor for the federal government, is required to vaccinate its employees.
On the 28th, White House COVID-19 response coordinator Jeff Zienz said the purpose of these injunctions is not to punish people, noting that the vaccination deadline for federal employees and contractors is "not a cliff."
Zienz said federal employers and contractors will be required to educate, counsel and resettle unvaccinated workers to persuade them to get vaccinated before they are fired.
