Xiao Chunu's "self-taught" reading method
This is a reading method that deepens understanding and improves the reading effect by teaching itself to the reading material.
Xiao Chunu, a self-taught revolutionary, used the "self-taught" reading method to teach while learning when she was a teacher in a normal school in her early years. In order to teach the students the contents of the textbooks accurately, clearly and vividly, Xiao Chunu worked hard to "teach herself." Every morning, he took a mirror to the woods, hung the mirror on the tree, and lectured loudly in front of the mirror, checking his expression and movements as he spoke. Sometimes I feel that the content is leaky or unfamiliar, so I open the textbook to review. In doing so, it is not only to practice lectures, but also to effectively learn the knowledge in the textbook, train their expression ability, and organize their thinking. He learned a lot with this method.
This "self-taught" reading method generally has the following four steps:
First, self-reading.
Read with a very clear purpose--to-teach.-- In order to teach, we must pay special attention to the organization when reading, and sort out the meaning of each paragraph and layer in the book one by one, which can not only promote understanding, but also train thinking; In order to teach, when reading, it is necessary to attach great importance to the primary and secondary, grasp the main points, distinguish and eliminate the complicated and inapplicable content, which prompts oneself to concentrate on understanding the key parts of the book; In order to teach, we must strive to overcome difficulties, otherwise we will have a "foreign appearance"; In order to teach, it is necessary to corroborate the contents of the book in connection with reality and use the examples that we are familiar with, so that the study of books will be "lived".
Second, self-talk.
Teach what you have learned from self-reading in an orderly, prioritized, and practical way. This kind of teaching has an object: it is a mirror when preparing for class, and it is a living student when it is in class. Speaking, it is a variety of sensory synergistic activities such as the brain, eyes, mouth, and hands, which are extremely impressive and by no means comparable to ordinary reading a book. Once you say it, you will remember the contents of the book more firmly. Moreover, new associations are often generated when teaching, which helps to deepen the understanding of books.
3. Self-correction.
In the process of teaching, it is often found that there are leaks and unfamiliarities, especially when preparing for class trials. This requires self-correction against the textbook. The process of correction is the process of strengthening memory and deepening understanding. When making self-corrections, the correction part should be drawn out on the textbook with a red pen, and the scratched pieces can be read many times in the future. In this way, I remember everything in the book quite clearly.
Fourth, self-knotting.
The end of self-teaching, after self-correction, does not mean the end of reading. Self-summarization should also be carried out: that is, to review the summary of the gains in their own reading and teaching. In particular, we summarize the methods of thinking about the problem, the perspective of reading the material, the doorway to understand the material, and the number of errors and omissions, and summarize the experience from them.
This kind of self-summary can make oneself not only know what is true in reading, but also know why it is so, so that future reading will be more conscious, more active, and therefore more effective.
Xiao Chunu's growth from a teahouse running hall to a well-known and knowledgeable communist propagandist has a lot to do with his ability to use the "self-teaching" reading method and achieve teaching skills.
