The Shanghai Theater Academy, located at 355 Yan'an West Road (630 Huashan Road), was once home to a German country club. After World War I, the French forcibly occupied the country club built by the Germans on the original MeierxiAi Road (today's Maoming South Road) in Shanghai, and the Germans, who usually like to gather casually, had no choice but to rebuild a country club in the beautiful garden of Huxi. Built in 1903, the club covers an area of more than 3 acres, with a two-storey German bungalow (Xiongfer West Building) with a well-framed and expensive porch. The building is equipped with a living room, a women's room, a lounge, a dance hall, a dining room, a marbles room, etc., and more than 10 tennis courts and lawn bowls have been built in the garden. In 1910, the Germans built an open-air ice rink here. Later, the Theater Academy built a theater to dig out a swimming pool, which is also a masterpiece of the Germans of this period.

At that time, Hu Lancheng lived in No. 28 Beautiful Garden, and Zhang Ailing lived in Changde Apartment (formerly Elinden Apartment). One day in the early spring of 1944, on the lawn of a courtyard in Nanjing, there was a middle-aged man lying on a wicker chair flipping through a magazine. When he saw a novel, he had just read the beginning, and he couldn't help but sit up straight and read it carefully over and over again. This man is Hu Lancheng, and the novel he reads is Zhang Ailing's "Blockade".

At this time, Hu Lancheng was already serving in the Wang puppet government and was recuperating in Nanjing. When he received the eleventh issue of the magazine "Heaven and Earth" sent by Su Qing, he was overjoyed when he read "Blockade". Soon, he received the twelfth issue of "Heaven and Earth" sent by Su Qing, which not only had Zhang Ailing's article, but also her photo. Hu Lancheng was deeply moved by Zhang Ailing's article and eagerly wanted to get to know this talented woman. After returning to Shanghai, I came to find Zhang Ailing according to the address provided by Su Qing - Room 65, 6th Floor, Apartment No. 192, Hede Road, Jing'an Temple Road.

According to the usual habit, Zhang Ailing did not see him. Perhaps due to fate, two days later, Zhang Ailing found the Beautiful Garden Apartment at No. 28, Lane 379, Yan'an West Road, Shanghai, according to the address on the prayer post. Hu Lancheng, deputy director of the Central Propaganda Department of the Wang puppet regime, fell in love with the arrogant talented woman. Zhang Ailing once wrote: "When I saw him, she became very low and very low, low to the dust. But her heart was joyful, and flowers blossomed from the dust. This year, Hu Lancheng was 38 years old and Zhang Ailing was 24 years old.

Zhang Ailing met Hu Lancheng here. She lived only one night, paying for a lifetime of disaster and loneliness. Even so, she had nothing to say. Hu Lancheng had to say it.

Chaos cannot be loved. Hu Lancheng fled here. In danger, the same sneaking incense. Zhang Ailing came to visit, and she could only be called a cousin. In the cold weather, he sat on a small stool in the mud of the woodhouse and watched his husband lean on other women.

In August 1944, after Hu Lancheng divorced his second wife, he secretly married Zhang Ailing in Shanghai (only Yan Ying and Hu Lancheng's niece Hu Qingyun were present at the wedding). Hu Lancheng and Zhang Ailing signed a lifelong contract and married a couple. May the years be quiet and the present world be stable. The first two sentences are written by Zhang Ailing, and the last two sentences are written by Hu Lancheng. Soon, Hu Lancheng went to Wuhan to run a newspaper, and during his hospital, he seduced a 17-year-old nurse, Zhou Xunde, and lived with him.

A year later, in August 1945, when Japan surrendered, Hu Lancheng, under the pseudonym Zhang Jiayi, fled to Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, to teach at Wenzhou Middle School. During his exile, Hu Lancheng lived with Fan Xiumei. In February 1946, Zhang Ailing visited Wenzhou.

In 1946, Zhang Ailing collaborated with the film director Sang Arc to write a script, which was quite successful. On June 10, 1947, Zhang Ailing wrote a letter to Hu Lan in exile.

Hu Lancheng received a farewell letter from Zhang Ailing:

I don't like you anymore, you don't like me anymore. This determination was something I had considered for a year and a half. He does not want to increase your difficulties. Don't come to me, even if you write a letter, I won't look at it.

Xiao Ji means small robbery. Zhang Ailing also attached her own 300,000 yuan manuscript fee. Since then, a legendary love affair between the two of them has come to a bitter end.

In the early 1950s, Hu Lancheng moved to Japan, and Zhang Ailing had left the mainland for Hong Kong. Hu Lancheng got the news and asked someone to visit her, but before he met, the man left Hu Lancheng's address in Japan. Half a year later, Hu Lancheng received a postcard, without looking up, without a signature, only familiar handwriting:

If you have books such as "Difficult and Difficult to Fight" and "Civilization and Tradition" (except for "Mountains and Rivers") at hand, can you borrow them for a few months as a reference? Behind it is Zhang Ailing's address in the United States.

Hu Lancheng was overjoyed, thinking that the old feelings could be restored, and thinking that Zhang Ailing still admired herself, so she immediately replied to the letter according to the address and attached a new book and photos. When the first volume of "This Life and This Life" was published, he sent a book to the past, writing a long letter, as a lingering word. Zhang Ailing did not reply at all, and only sent a short note at the end:

Lan Cheng:

Your letter and book have been received, thank you very much. I don't want to write, please forgive me. I took the liberty of borrowing it from you because I really couldn't find a reference to your old writings, and I really feel sorry if I misunderstood you. When the next volume of This Life and This Life is published, if you are not unhappy, please send me a copy. I thank you in advance here and will not write another letter.

Site of the first secret radio station of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (the original building has been demolished)

Between 1928 and 1931, during the underground intelligence war between the Kuomintang and the Communists in Shanghai, Li Qiang was an extremely important figure; he not only developed and created the first radio station of the Communist Party of China and realized radio communications between Shanghai and Hong Kong, but also was one of the earliest radio instructors of our Party and founded training courses to cultivate radio communication talents for our Party.

In 1905, Li Qiang (formerly known as Zeng Peihong) was born in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. Li Qiang has been full of interest in new things since he was a child, and his academic performance is excellent. In 1923, Li Qiang entered the middle school department of The Nanyang Road Mine School in Shanghai, which adopted bilingual teaching. Upon graduation, Li Qiang received two graduation certificates in both Chinese and English. At that time, with an English diploma, he could go directly to the University of Wisconsin in the United States, but Li Qiang did not go, but continued to study in the university department of the university and majored in civil engineering. In June 1925, Li Qiang joined the Communist Youth League, and in August of the same year, he became a full member of the Communist Party of China. In February 1926, Li was appointed secretary of the Shanghai Pudong Department of the Communist Youth League. In May 1927, the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China was established in Wuhan. Zhou Enlai and Gu Shunzhang emphasized Li into the Special Section of the Central Committee, served as the chief of the Special Affairs Unit, and concurrently handled other special tasks assigned by the Central Committee. Two months later, Li Qiang was appointed chief of the traffic section, the chief of the intelligence section was Chen Geng and Gu Shunzhang was in charge of the affairs of the red team.

In October 1928, Zhou Enlai, who had finished the "Six Congresses" from Moscow, returned to Shanghai, and late one night, he came to the home of Li Qiang, chief of the fourth section of the Central Special Section (Traffic Section). Late that night, Zhou Enlai assigned Li Qiang the task of establishing a radio station by the central authorities.

At that time, Li Qiang had not been exposed to radio. Since accepting the task of creating a secret radio station, Li Qiang has shown his extraordinary self-study and hands-on ability, and he has read English magazines and books such as "Basic Principles of Radio" and quickly accumulated theoretical knowledge of radio. Li Qiang also purchased radio equipment tools and circuit drawings from the Asian American Radio Company at that time through business friends, and "borrowed" radio transceivers from the Dahua Instrument Company, which specialized in the production of transceivers, and dismantled and studied them overnight, drew sketches, and purchased parts accordingly. Some parts cannot be bought on the market, and Li Qiang will do it himself. At the end of the spring of 1929, Li Qiang finally successfully developed the first transceiver in the history of our party.

In the spring of 1931, Li Qiang went to the Soviet Union for work and further studies, and quickly became a top expert in the field of radio. The building was designed by Zhuang Jun Architects and constructed by Chang Ji Construction Factory in a modernist style. The façade is well proportioned and simply decorated. Stairwell windows are arranged in a stepped shape.

The first women's and children's hospital with a certain scale founded by Chinese himself was founded by Dr. Sun Keji (Xiangtan, Hunan, 1892~1968), an expert in obstetrics and gynecology, and part of the medical equipment in the hospital was donated by the patient's family. The site of the hospital was originally a small villa by Song Ziwen, and because Sun Keji cured the gynecological disease of Song Ziwen's wife Zhang Leyi, Song Ziwen gave the land of Daxi Road to use after learning of Sun Keji's intention to build a hospital by himself. Dr. Sun's medical skills were excellent, and many rich families and celebrities at that time originally treated foreign doctors, but gradually sought treatment from Dr. Sun. At the beginning of liberation, Mayor Chen Yi's wife, Zhang Qian, also gave birth in this hospital. The hospital was merged with the private Tongde Women's and Children's Hospital in 1956 and became Shanghai Maternity Hospital. In 1958, it was transferred to Changning District and changed to Changning District Maternity Hospital, and in November 1960, it was merged with Changning District Maternity Hospital to become obstetrics and gynecology hospital, which is now Shanghai True Love Women's Hospital.

The Great West Villa is called the Great West Villa because the original road was named Great West Road. It is a British-style fake three-storey high-end townhouse built by a British commercial real estate company here, with a total of 17 buildings. Brick and wood structure with flat tile steep slope roof.

Because the British taboo 13, so there is no house number 13 in the lane, the original house number to the 18th, the 19th is a new building that emerged later.

Excellent historical preservation buildings and former residences of celebrities on Yan'an West Road

When it was first built, the residential areas were fully equipped with water, electricity and sanitation, and it was one of the few high-end residential areas in the western part of Shanghai at that time. After the fall of Shanghai in 1937, many traitors in the period of hostility and hypocrisy took advantage of the obscenity of the Japanese to plunder the people's fat and people's cream to make a fortune, and after the outbreak of the Pacific War in 1941, the Japanese began to take over the industries of Shanghai's British, American and other hostile countries, and the Great West Villa became the permanent production company industry set up by the Xingya Institute of the Japanese invasion of China.

Excellent historical preservation buildings and former residences of celebrities on Yan'an West Road

At that time, the General Manager of the Chinese of Hengshan Company was the traitor Chen Shaofei. During the fall of Shanghai, he not only occupied civilian land for the Japanese, built airports and military facilities, but also was one of the main executives who took over the overseas Chinese real estate companies in Shanghai after the outbreak of the Pacific War in 1941.

Excellent historical preservation buildings and former residences of celebrities on Yan'an West Road

After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Chen Shaofei was a traitor, and her property should be confiscated in addition to the living expenses of her family members. But, the Kuomintang

The "Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Anhui Enemy and Counterfeit Industry Processing Bureau and the Central Trust Bureau's Enemy and Counterfeit Industry Clearance Office" did not receive a single piece of Chen's property. The original 17 garden houses of the Great West Villa had long been entrusted by Chen Shaofei to the former American businessman Puyi Real Estate Company for rent, which created conditions for him to change his appearance and hide his enemy property in the future.

Excellent historical preservation buildings and former residences of celebrities on Yan'an West Road

At the same time, Chen Shaofei used Lu Mou, a lawyer who was a real estate broker, to bribe Sha Mou of the land affairs bureau at the time with 5 of them, and 12 of them were hidden assets in the name of fake transfers, changing the name of the household to the names of Chen Shaofei's relatives Lin Yueqing and Hong Ruixiang.

Excellent historical preservation buildings and former residences of celebrities on Yan'an West Road

This matter was not discovered until the period of the Three Antis and the Fifth Anti, and in 1954 the people's government made a judgment: 17 buildings of the Great West Villa Chen Shaofei were traitorous and rebellious, except for the 5 buildings sold by the family of No. 2, 6 and 12 and the 15 and 17 sold by Sha Mou, which were not investigated because the buyer did not know, the rest were confiscated.

Excellent historical preservation buildings and former residences of celebrities on Yan'an West Road

Therefore, at present, only five of the housing property rights of Daxi Villa are private property rights, and the rest are directly managed in Shanghai. After the confiscation, the property was uniformly distributed by the state to the employees with residence difficulties in the relevant enterprises, and some employees of the newly established National Key Optical Instrument Factory in 1953 had the honor of becoming new residents of The Great West Villa.

Excellent historical preservation buildings and former residences of celebrities on Yan'an West Road

In the 1970s and 1980s, in order to solve the problem of residents' living difficulties, the local housing management department added layers to most of the directly managed public housing and the houses that were encroached upon during the Cultural Revolution at that time, changing from the original fake three-storey building to a three-story building, so from a high place, it can be found that only No. 15 still retains the original cascading slope roof.

Completed in 1926, the Great West Road Gate of Guanghua University

Kwang Hua University is a well-known comprehensive private university in Shanghai during the Republic of China era, founded in June 1925 by 572 teachers and students who withdrew from St. John's University. In 1925, the May Thirtieth Massacre broke out in Shanghai, and people from all walks of life took to the streets. Teachers and students at St. John's University and the attached high school also organized a strike protest, but were blocked by the university. On June 3 (this day is set as Guanghua's school celebration day), 553 students and 19 Chinese teachers led by Meng Xiancheng and Qian Jibo collectively swore an oath to leave St. John's University, and more than 10 fresh college graduates declared that they would not accept the diploma issued by St. John's, and organized a leaving committee on the same day. On June 4, teachers and students who left the school gathered to discuss the establishment of their own schools, and their actions were supported by all sectors of society and parents of students, and they paid for the land. Student Wang Huazhao's father, Wang Fenghao, donated more than 60 acres of land in Fahua Township, Daxi Road, as the school foundation. At that time, Zhang Shouyong, as the governor of the local government (Huhai Daoyin), helped the students' patriotic behavior, and he donated 3,000 yuan to sponsor the "June 3rd" departing teachers and students of St. John's University to organize Guanghua University, and served as the president of the preparatory committee. Subsequently, Guanghua University set up a board of trustees, and elected Wang Fenghao, Zhu Yinjiang, Zhu Jingnong, Yu Rizhang, Zhao Jinqing, Qian Xinzhi, Zhang Shouyong, Wu Yunzhai, Huang Yanpei, Yu Qiaqing, etc. as the trustees, and elected Wang Fenghao as the chairman. Wang Zhengyan, Wang Pethui, Ma Xiangbo, Xiong Xiling, Gu Weijun, etc. were hired as honorary directors. On the recommendation of the Board of Directors, Zhang Shouyong served as the first president of Guanghua University. With the assistance of all parties, "Guanghua University" was officially established in just three months.

When the school opened in September 1925, the school site was rented at Xiafei Road (now Middle Huaihai Road).

In the first year, because the school building was still under construction, the house at No. 534 Xiafei Road (now Middle Huaihai Road) in the old French Concession was temporarily rented as a temporary school building, and the dormitory was divided into four places nearby.

Guanghua University Great West Road site model

In September 1926, it moved to the new site of Daxi Road, and on August 13, 1937, the "Songhu Anti-Japanese War" broke out, and in mid-November, the daxi road school building of Guanghua University was reduced to a war zone and was tragically destroyed by Japanese artillery fire (now only a bungalow of about 286 square meters remains, which has been transformed into an "alumni home" and a cultural relics protection point in Changning District).

At the beginning of 1938, Guanghua University moved to Chengdu to run its school in the midst of the Anti-Japanese War and established the Chengdu Branch of Guanghua University. At the end of 1941, the Shanghai headquarters was renamed the Chengzheng Literature Society and the Gezhili Business Society (moved to the third and eighth floors of the Huaqi Building at Present-day Hankou Road No. 422), and the Chengdu Branch assumed the functions of the general school. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945, the Shanghai headquarters was restored, and the Chengdu branch was handed over to the local government of Sichuan Province to take over and renamed the private Chenghua University. In October 1952, the private Chenghua University was changed to a public university, and based on Chenghua University, it was transferred to 16 financial and economic colleges in the southwest region and the department of finance and economics of comprehensive universities to form the Sichuan Institute of Finance and Economics (now Southwest university of finance and economics). In August 2012, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics set the establishment time of Guanghua University on June 3, 1925.

In 1947, the private Shanghai Textile Industry College purchased the old site of Daxi Road of Guanghua University and relocated to this school, in 1950 it merged with three other institutions to form Shanghai Institute of Textile Technology, in June 1951, it selected the site of the former Guanghua University at the intersection of Yan'an West Road and Zhongshan West Road and the nearby farmland as the new campus base, and merged with the Department of Textile Engineering of Jiaotong University to form the East China Textile Institute of Technology (now Donghua University).

Before the adjustment of faculties, Guanghua University had three faculties of arts, sciences and commerce, and 14 departments of Chinese language, foreign languages, education, political society, law, mathematics, chemistry, biology, civil engineering, economics, business administration, accounting, banking, and railway engineering.

In October 1951, in addition to the departments of business, law and civil engineering, its liberal arts and sciences merged with the relevant departments of Daxia University to form East China Normal University, becoming the first normal university founded in New China. The archives of Guanghua University from 1925 to 1951 and some archives of Guanghua Affiliated High School were also transferred to East China Normal University. On March 10, 1985, the Alumni Association of Guanghua University was officially established in East China Normal University. Since the 60th anniversary of the university in 2011, East China Normal University has designated the founding day of Guanghua University (June 3) as the annual anniversary of the school.
