On March 30, the 2021 National Underwater Robot Competition Online Competition was launched in Shenzhen. The competition is guided by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and co-sponsored by Pengcheng Laboratory, Dalian Municipal People's Government, Zhanjiang Municipal People's Government and Dalian University of Technology.

As the only high-end competition for underwater robots in the real offshore environment in the world, the National Underwater Robot Competition has been successfully held for four sessions so far. The competition is composed of a series of events such as online competition, Zhanjiang live competition, Dalian live competition, etc., the Zhanjiang competition with "professional skills independent inspection" as the main feature is expected to be held in May, and the Dalian race with "accurate grasping of underwater targets" is expected to be held in September.

This competition has made new arrangements for the track setting, among which the online race, on the basis of the original underwater optical object detection algorithm competition and the underwater acoustic object detection algorithm competition, has expanded the optical object detection algorithm industry deployment track, and added the underwater acoustic communication industry application track, which is more in line with the marine equipment technology chain and expands the algorithm coverage field. Benchmark the actual needs of the social economy and industrial industry, strive to create a new ecology for event engine innovation, and innovation to promote high-quality development of the industry.

In the on-site race, the Zhanjiang Race held in May will take the needs of the deep-sea aquaculture industry as a prototype, simulate the real operation scene, and design an autonomous unmanned underwater robot (auv) track and a remotely operated underwater robot (rov) track. Compared with the previous year, this competition pays more attention to the performance of robots in practical applications such as communication reliability, navigation accuracy, and intelligent detection and recognition capabilities, making the competition more challenging.

This year's competition set up a technological innovation display of UAV and unmanned boat cluster collaboration, multi-dimensional display of marine advanced technology and application demonstration, and enriched the content of the competition. At the same time, in order to highlight the popular science and display significance of the event, the "Smart Marine and Underwater Robot Science Exhibition (Electronic Exhibition Hall)" will be built to make the competition more ornamental and scientific by integrating high-tech elements to display the results of the competition.

At the kick-off meeting, the technical rules of this competition were announced, and the total prize pool of the competition was as high as 1.5 million yuan, and there was supporting support from industry and talents. From now on, the online competition registration channel is officially opened, and players can log in to the http://urpc.pcl.ac.cn to register. (Reporter Yang Zhen)
