Walking on thin ice, bravely breaking into the forbidden area - Remember Professor Wu Qingyu of the First Affiliated Hospital of Tsinghua University

There is such a medical expert in the field of medical and health care in China, who has worked tirelessly for decades, studied, explored, and innovated, created a miracle of life, and broken the forbidden area of surgery in the field of cardiac surgery. He worked more than ten or even twenty hours a day for years to save the lives of patients who were unfortunate enough to die of heart disease and regain their lives. He is honest and honest, leading by example and leading the hospital team to achieve remarkable results in all aspects.

Since 1990, he has successfully solved many major difficult problems in the surgical treatment of heart disease, took the lead in carrying out 25 high-difficulty and complex heart surgeries in China, and pioneered the completion of a number of "firsts" in the field of cardiac surgery, all of which were successful.

In 2014, the first complete aortic transposition neonate born only 2 hours in China underwent aortic transfer surgery, and recovered well after surgery.

In 2008, the first newborn in China with complete aortic transposition 11 hours after birth successfully underwent radical surgery.

In 2006, the world's first rare case of complex cardiac malformations (right-handed heart, left-handed artery, single atrium, left ventricular double outlet, complete endocardial pad defect, pulmonary valve and subvalular stenosis, perpetual upper left cavity) with asplenia syndrome was successfully performed radical surgery. The child is currently growing well.

In March 2005, a record 17 days of artificial lung (ecmo) were used in China, and a patient with intractable hypoxemia after left ventricular double-outlet surgery was successfully treated. This is the first patient in China who has been using artificial lung for the longest time, providing successful experience for the treatment of patients with critically ill center of gravity lung disease in China.

In March 2001, the first case of a patient with advanced heart failure was placed into an artificial left heart assist device in the body, and 25 months later, he was transplanted for a heart transplant, which is the longest time to install the left heart assist device in China and a successful heart transplant, and there are only a few successful records in Asia.

In 2001, a very complex atrial + ventricular double switching surgery was successfully carried out, which provided a new method for the treatment of corrective aortic transposition.

In 1999, the first case of non-extracorporeal circulation double-directional Green surgery in China was successful.

In 1998, the first case of ross surgery in China. The procedure is considered one of the most difficult surgeries in the field of cardiovascular surgery due to the need for replacement of the aorta, the root of the pulmonary artery and the re-grafting of the coronary arteries of the heart. Drawing on foreign experience, he has improved the surgical method, and the effect is obviously better than that of artificial valve replacement.

In 1998, coronary artery bypass grafting combined with idiopathic cardiomyopathy was successfully performed at the same time.

In 1997, the surgical treatment and results of ventricular septal dissectoma were reported for the first time internationally, and the causes were explored.

In 1997, the traditional surgical method of treating aortic arch interruption or coarctation combined with intracardiac malformations was improved, so that diseases that originally required fractional surgery could be cured in one operation, which significantly improved the success rate of surgery.

In 1997, chronic embolic pulmonary hypertension thrombotic endometrial decortication was successfully performed, pioneering work for the surgical treatment of the disease.

In 1994, a heart-lung transplant was successfully performed. The patient was end-stage cardiopulmonary disease, the operation was unusually smooth, died of accident and infection, and survived for 15 days after surgery, which was the best record in China at that time.

He is the "reclaimer" of China's cardiac surgery, Professor Wu Qingyu, chief consultant of the First Affiliated Hospital of Tsinghua University and director of the Heart Center.

Professor Wu Qingyu has been engaged in clinical and basic research in cardiovascular surgery for more than 40 years, is the main pioneer and discipline leader in the field of cardiac surgery in China, is the first member of the American Society of Thoracic Surgery (aats), the american society of thoracic surgeons (sts), the only Member of the European Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery (eacts) in China, an honorary member of the Asian Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (ASCVTS), a member of the Standing Committee of the Asian Representative of the World Society of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery (wspchs), and a member of the American Yearbook of Thoracic Surgery. Chinese mainland editorial board member, member of the disciplinary review group of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences. He was the vice president of the Cardiovascular Surgeon Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the deputy director of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. More than 10,000 patients have been operated on by him, most of which are complex and difficult critical cases, and many surgical methods have been innovated, which has revived many endangered patients. From 2014 to 2018, he was continuously selected into the List of Edsvier's Cited Scholars, ranking first in the field of cardiac surgery. He has gone abroad for 6 times to perform surgical demonstrations, and has been invited to participate in important international academic conferences and give more than 50 invited lectures. In the fields of congenital heart disease, coronary heart disease, valvular heart disease, large blood vessel disease, artificial left heart assist and other fields, there are outstanding achievements and innovative achievements, especially coronary heart disease, valvular disease and difficult and complex congenital heart disease surgery efficacy has reached the world's leading level.

First, as the leader of complex congenital heart surgery in China, he has achieved a number of innovative research results and made great contributions to promoting the development of congenital heart disease surgery in China.

1. He originally proposed the new concept of anatomical orthodontic treatment of tricuspid valve downshift (ebstein deformity) internationally, which exempted more than 98% of patients with the disease from artificial valve replacement, which is a major advance in the treatment of the disease. Ebstein malformation is a rare complex congenital heart disease with difficult surgery and high mortality. Since 1997, Wu Qingyu pioneered anatomical correction, which aims at the overall reconstruction of the right ventricle, which can maximize the maintenance of the right ventricular anatomical morphology and tricuspid valve function. The paper, published in the Yearbook of Thoracic Surgery in the United States, was recognized by Professor Roger B. mee, Director of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Cleveland Medical Center.b, the most prestigious international expert in the treatment of pediatric congenital heart disease, as a major advance in the treatment of Ebstein malformations. Dearani Joseph, a renowned cardiac surgery specialist at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. a. The surgical team led by the professor came to our hospital in 2004 to learn this technique. So far, Professor Wu Qingyu is a cardiovascular surgeon with the largest number and the best efficacy in the treatment of ebstein deformity patients in the world.

2. He developed the technical standards for radical surgery for Tetralogy of Fallot and was written into the textbook of cardiovascular surgery. This standard expands the indications for surgery of the disease, so that the surgical mortality rate has been reduced from about 10% to less than 0.8%, which has been maintained to this day and reached the international leading level. The related paper was published in the American "Yearbook of Thoracic Surgery", and Professor C.W. Lillehei, one of the founders of the world's cardiac surgery and the first in the world to implement tetralogy radical resection of Fallot," formally evaluated in a specially invited review: the conclusions reached are correct, and the surgical results are the best in the English literature. His principles and surgical methods for the treatment of Tetralogy of Fallot are still guiding clinical work today.

3. He took the lead in carrying out neonatal complex heart surgery in China, and performed aortic transfer surgery for children with aortic transposition at birth only 2, 5, 11 and 26 hours, all of which were successful, rewriting the history of inability to treat such diseases in China. Complete aortic transposition is a common cyanosis congenital heart disease, which can be cured by aortic switch, but the operation is difficult and the mortality rate is high. From 1997 to 2002, Wu Qingyu performed switch surgery on 30 children with complete aortic transposition (ages from 66 h to 12 years after birth), and 2 cases died of surgery, with a mortality rate of 6.7%, making switch surgery a routine operation. Corrective aortic transposition deformity is complex, often combined with ventricular septal defects and pulmonary artery valve stenosis, commonly used rastelli surgical treatment, long-term effect is poor, easy to cause left AV regurgitation insufficiency and ventricular failure, and atrial and arterial level double switch surgery is good, but the operation is difficult. In November 2001, Wu Qingyu successfully performed double switch surgery for the first time in China.

Second, the surgical technology of coronary artery bypass and the treatment of myocardial infarction comorbidities have been clinically studied, and the key technical problems of coronary artery bypass surgery have been solved and promoted in China.

In 2000, he broadcast the entire process of coronary artery bypass surgery online for the first time to the world. He personally treated more than 3,500 cases of difficult and complex critical coronary heart disease patients, and the success rate of coronary artery bypass surgery was more than 99.5%. As the first person to complete it, the "Clinical and Basic Research on Improving the Therapeutic Effect of Coronary Heart Disease Surgery" won the "Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2002" issued by the State Council. He has trained a large number of technical backbones, so that more than 100 hospitals across the country can complete this kind of surgery, through the "Tenth Five-Year" research, the death rate of more than 5,000 cases of coronary artery bypass surgery in the country has been reduced to 1.7% (2-3% in the United States). "Tenth Five-Year" key research review expert evaluation: in vitro or non-extracorporeal circulation surgery has been standardized, which has made great contributions to the development of coronary heart disease surgery in China. He presided over the formulation of the "Technical Guidelines for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting", which is common to the Department of Coronary Heart Disease Surgery in China. He is the editor-in-chief of "Coronary Surgery", and for the first time, the whole process of coronary artery bypass surgery is broadcast live online. It has laid a solid foundation for the rapid development of coronary heart disease surgery in China, and enabled the surgical treatment of coronary heart disease in China to reach the international advanced level.

3. He successfully carried out pulmonary endarterectomy for the first time in China for the treatment of chronic embolic pulmonary hypertension.

For the first time in China, patients with advanced coronary heart disease and heart failure were placed into the body "artificial heart", and 25 months later, it was successfully dismantled for heart transplantation, which is the only patient in China who has applied the device for the longest time as bridge and successfully carried out heart transplantation. In 1994, a case of heart-lung transplantation was successfully performed, and the patient had the longest survival time at that time.

Fourth, focus on hospital management and lead the development of disciplines

On March 4, 2004, Professor Wu Qingyu was transferred from Fuwai Cardiovascular Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences to Tsinghua University, and began to work at Huaxin Hospital in Beijing (the first affiliated hospital of Tsinghua University). In March 2004, he served as the executive vice president of the First Affiliated Hospital, and from July 2006 to July 2017, he served as the president and deputy secretary of the party committee. In July 2017, he was hired as the chief consultant of the hospital. He is a member of the leading group for the construction of medical disciplines, the deputy director of the academic committee, the vice president of the medical school, and the chairman of the medical degree evaluation sub-committee at Tsinghua University. In 2012, he participated in the preparation of the medical center, and after the establishment of the medical center, he also served as the director of the medical center. For more than ten years, he has fulfilled his duties, under the leadership and support of the presidents and secretaries of Tsinghua University, with the joint efforts of the hospital's party and government teams and all staff, the First Affiliated Hospital has adhered to the spirit of the school motto of "self-improvement, virtue and material", worked hard in the difficult situation, and made great achievements in the development of the hospital.

As an expert and discipline leader in cardiac surgery, Professor Wu Qingyu founded the Heart Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Tsinghua University in March 2004, which is composed of a first-class team of medical staff at home and abroad, including the Department of Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Cardiopulmonary Bypass Group, operating room and Icu. Always with the purpose of "reshaping life, starting from the heart, striving to be the first in the world", taking the international leading level as the goal, adhering to the treatment of difficult, critical and complex deformities and cardiovascular diseases as the characteristics, giving full play to the great advantages of close cooperation between cardiac surgery and surgery, and making remarkable achievements in medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and academic exchanges. The first arrhythmia diagnosis and treatment center in China with close cooperation between internal and surgical departments was established, and more than 40 cases of critically ill patients were successfully treated, including the installation of the first neonatal extracardiac pacemaker in China. The China Complex Congenital Heart Disease Rescue Center was also established. In the past ten years, more than 6,000 cases of various heart surgeries have been completed, and more than 85% of them are patients with difficult, critical and complex heart deformities who have traveled all over the country and are unable to treat them. A variety of difficult heart and macrovascular surgeries ranging from 2 hours of age to over 80 years of age, weighing from 1.75 kg to 100 kg of young and low-weight children (10%) to more than 100 kg, including the world's most complex tricuspid valve downward displacement deformity orthodontics, single ventricular septation, ventricular deficiency complicated pulmonary atresia orthopedics, critical coronary artery bypass and complex valve surgery. Among them, pediatric aortic valve formation, resection of giant left ventricular tumor, ascending aortic aneurysm combined with aortic coarctation correction after transposition of the aortic artery, and successful application of artificial heart assist after modified Nikaidoh surgery have reached the world's leading level. So far, the success rate of various difficult and complex cardiac surgeries in the heart center has reached more than 95%, and the cure rate and efficacy have reached the international advanced level, among which the surgical efficacy of tricuspid valve downward displacement deformity correction, right ventricular double outlet, and tetralogy radical salutation of Farlow's is at the world's leading level.

5. Scientific research and teaching work

As the first person to complete the two scientific research projects "Clinical and Basic Series Research on the Surgical Treatment of Difficult Congenital Heart Disease" and "Basic and Clinical Research on Improving the Surgical Treatment Effect of Coronary Heart Disease", he won the "Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress", with a total of 4 "Second Prizes of National Science and Technology Progress" and 10 provincial and ministerial awards. He has published 278 papers, including 39 papers in sci. He has edited 14 monographs and trained 59 doctors and masters.
