Original Film Story:
A writer from the Indian family wanted to ask him about his escape at sea, and Paik paused and told him such a story.
The Teenpai came from an Indian family and had been a vegetarian because of its embrace of Buddhism, Islam and Christianity. Pai's family owns a zoo with a tiger named Richard Parker.
Pai has always regarded Parker as a friend and wants to reach out to feed the tiger himself, but the brother next to him quickly calls for his father. Papa tied a sheep outside the door to prove that the tiger Pai saw was just a reflection of himself, and sure enough, Parker ate the sheep in one bite.
Soon after, the whole family was going to move to Canada. On the boat, Pie got into an argument with the chef over vegetarian food, when a sailor came up to Pie and told him that gravy is not meat, and Pie can be eaten. But Pai firmly believed in it and resolutely refused to eat meat.
In the evening, the ship was suddenly hit by wind and waves, and the pie was scattered and fell into a small boat. In addition to the pie, there was a female orangutan, a hyena and a lame zebra. Floating at sea hungry and cold, the hyena first ate the lame zebra and then bit the female orangutan, and just as Pi was about to be bitten by the hyena, Parker, the tiger hiding in the cabin, suddenly rushed out.
Parker bit the hyena to death, and the ship was finally at peace. However, because he was afraid that he would be eaten by Parker, Pai had to make a floating object with his life jacket and look at the tiger from a distance.
In order to get the biscuits and fresh water in the cabin at regular intervals, Pie began to try to tame Parker, but apparently, he failed.
Fearing that predatory tigers would eat themselves because they were too hungry, pie began fishing and fed them to Parker to save his life. Once, Pai discovered that Parker would reach out his paws to catch fish, so Pai wanted to take back the lifeboat while Parker swam into the sea and leave Parker in the sea. But watching Parker struggle in the sea, Pi couldn't bear it and let Parker return to the ship.
One night, a big fish overturned the boat, and the biscuits and fresh water were gone. In the sea, Pie saw an octopus tied to a big fish, and all kinds of animals swam out of the belly of the big fish, and in a trance, Pi seemed to see his mother's face.
Without dry food, the vegetarian Pie began to eat fish, hoping that he would survive until the day he was rescued.
The boat drifted to a floating island, and Pie suddenly found that the island had edible plant roots, and countless island mongooses that could be used as Parker's food, and Pie, who had been hungry for so long, finally had enough to eat. But in the evening, Pai suddenly found that something was wrong, the original freshwater lake turned into hydrochloric acid at night, and a tooth grew in the lotus, it turned out to be a man-eating island, and Pai hurried out of here.
Finally, after Pai didn't know how many days of drifting, the boat finally drifted to shore, and the delirious Pie was rescued by the locals, while Tiger Parker just looked back at Pi and disappeared into the jungle.
After being rescued, Pi was questioned by the police, and Pai told the story to the police, but the police did not believe it. So Pie told another story.
There were no animals on the lifeboats, only cooks, lame sailors, Pie's mother, and Pie himself. The sailor broke his leg, the cook did not save him, for food, the cook began to fish with the body of the sailor, the mother who knew the truth and the cook had an argument and was beaten to death by the cook. Pi, who had been protected by his mother, was enraged, and he ended up killing the cook and fishing with the cook's corpse before being rescued.
After the story was told, the policemen stopped talking.
The camera zooms back to the present, and after listening to Pai's story, the writer finds that the two stories are strikingly similar. The hyena is the cook, the sailor is the zebra, the female orangutan is Pie's mother, and Pie is the tiger.
Interpreting the classics:
Ang Lee won the 2013 Academy Award for Best Director for "The Fantasy Drifting of Young Pi", and unlike "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", the film is full of obscure metaphors and the darkness of human nature. As Pai asks the writer at the end of the film, "Which story do you prefer?" The writer replied that there was the one with the animals. We all prefer to believe that this is a game between man and animal in the face of survival, rather than a struggle between man and man.
Here I would like to say a little more about the man-eating island. There is a detail, after Pie arrived on the island, I don't know why I tied the bracelet that his girlfriend gave him to the tree, combined with the teeth growing in the lotus, the shape of the floating island from a distance is the appearance of a woman, I prefer to see this island as Pie's girlfriend, and this is also the third story hidden in both versions of the story.
The girlfriend should also be on the lifeboat, but Pai killed his girlfriend in order to survive, or more cruelly, Pi ate his girlfriend. In the movie, it can correspond to the root of the tree that Pi found in pi on the man-eating island, which should be the body of his girlfriend.
Pi can forgive himself for killing the cook because the cook killed the sailor and his own mother. But Pi can't forgive himself for killing an innocent girlfriend because he wants to live, not to mention that the movie gives Pie the setting of three religions from the beginning.
Let's talk about Richard Parker, the tiger. From the time Pai was a good friend of tigers when he was a child, his father always told him that the tiger you see is just a reflection in his own eyes, and when hungry, the tiger will involuntarily eat a goat. In the face of life and death, people will also eat their own kind in order to survive. This tiger is actually the animalistic side of the pie heart.

Was he saved because he was? Absolutely, but not only. The departure of Tiger Parker means that Pi has returned to civilized society and has to hide his inner bestiality. 1, the tiger Richard Parker in the movie actually has his own person in history. In the 1884 shipwreck, Richard Parker was the weakest of the four survivors, and the other three were rescued by eating Parker. After being rescued, three people were convicted of murder.
2, "The Fantasy Drift of Young Pi" before the start of filming is the most important thing is to find the actor of pi. The director team auditioned more than 3,000 people and eventually found Sura Shama, a native Indian teenager who was still a student. Like many actors who have no intention of planting willows, Sula Shama originally only accompanied her brother to audition, but she did not expect to be selected.
3, this film uses a lot of 3D special effects, and the sea shots we see are almost all shot in the studio. But Tiger Richard Parker is a real tiger.
