Last week's meeting of the World Council of Motorsports defined the regulatory framework for the 2026 F1 power unit, including the use of 100% sustainable fuels, the retention of the structure of the existing 1.6-liter V6 internal combustion engine, the increase in the power of the electric system, the elimination of the expensive and complex MUG-H (thermal energy recovery system) and the cost of the power unit will also be limited for the first time.

Audi CEO Marcus Dusman and Technology Development Board Member Oliver Hoffman said they were satisfied with the progress made in the new technology rules for the F1 power unit in 2026 and in line with their goals.

Within this framework, Audi's plans to enter F1 are accelerating. The German manufacturer is expected to make a formal decision in the coming months.

In a letter to former FIA Chairman Jean Todd and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicari, Audi believes that the new draft power unit rules for 2026 provide a fair solution for new entrants to F1 and existing competitors and achieve the expected agreed goals.

In addition, Audi also wished the FIA a fair game "until the last lap of the season" in the letter.
