In November 1943, in the steep Yimeng Mountains, our army of 93 people, held the position for 18 days, and finally repelled more than 3,000 Japanese puppet troops at the cost of 2 deaths and 7 wounds, and the casualties of the Japanese puppet army reached more than 300. The disparity between the strength of the enemy and ourselves, our army won the victory under such difficult circumstances, this classic battle, by posterity: the Battle of Daigu.
Gu is a unique landform in the Yimeng Mountains, which is a cliff that suddenly appears several meters high above the plain, straight and steep and impossible to climb, and above the cliff is tens of acres or even hundreds of acres of flat land, which is called Gugu.
On November 9, 1943, the Japanese puppet army used Linyi, Laijing, Yishui and other places as the main anti-Japanese base areas to carry out crazy encirclement and suppression, of which Daigu belonged to the key areas of encirclement and suppression.
The main force of the Luzhong Military Region of the Eighth Route Army shifted to the outside line to fight, and the 11th Regiment insisted on the civil war as the main anti-Japanese force of Daigu. In those years, the Eighth Route Army, which had a weakly equipped and small number of troops, was difficult to compete with the Japanese puppet army with vehicles, artillery and large numbers.
They drifted on the anti-Japanese battlefield in a fragmented combat method, making it difficult for the Japanese puppet army to find them, and then there was no direction for the battle.
Therefore, at this time, once the Japanese puppet army found the traces of the Eighth Route Army, it would cling to it and attack wildly, and this time Daigu would be deeply mired in the mud.
Daigu is divided into South Daigu and North Daigu, standing in opposite directions from north to south, about 700 meters high, separated by more than 1,000 meters, which is the distance of the two rifles combined, the terrain is dangerous, easy to defend and difficult to attack.
There are secret passages, bunkers and other facilities on the mountain, which are conducive to military operations and have been a place where soldiers must fight since ancient times. As long as the defense is deployed on the north and south Daigu, it is equivalent to closing the gate into the Yimeng Mountains.
However, in order to climb to the top of the mountain, obtain this treasure land, and line up troops, you must climb a cliff several inches high, and if you can't climb, you can only rely on the ladder, which is also full of dangers.
The 93 soldiers of the 8th Company of the 11th Regiment of the Luzhong Military Region took the best preparation equipment they could find, prepared for a month-long tug-of-war, bravely marched forward, and landed the north and south Daigu.
They found the tunnel trenches and storage rooms left by the bandits at that time, and crossed the fire between the north and south Daigu Mountains, which were more than 1,000 meters apart, blocking the gate of the Yimeng Mountain, waiting for the arrival of the ghosts.
In order to confuse the enemy, the other companies of the Luzhong Military Region, which were fighting on the outside line, should be combined with each other, and only 11 regiments with 3 companies remained, calling themselves 7 companies, 8 companies, and 9 companies. In fact, the number is very small, there is no 1 to 6 companies at all, just to increase morale.
With advanced military weapons and sufficient manpower of more than 3,000 people, the Japanese puppet army fought very fiercely as soon as it entered the Yimeng Mountains. Artillery and aircraft bombed one after another, and the astute Eighth Route Army had already made defensive preparations and quickly hid in the trenches, leaving the Japanese puppet army's bombing incapacitated.
The devils found that the bombing was ineffective, and immediately switched to infantry, preparing to completely encircle and suppress our army with numerical superiority and advanced weapons. But what the Japanese puppet army did not expect was that the Eighth Route Army immediately changed its position, rushed out of the trench, withdrew to the top of the mountain, and attacked the Japanese army from a high place.
In order to save bullets, the Eighth Route Army took materials from the spot, rolled boulders down from the top of the mountain, and smashed the devils who were climbing upwards with lightning speed, so that they could not cover their ears, and they had no power to fight back.
With the help of geographical advantages, 93 eighth route army officers and men confronted more than 3,000 Japanese puppet troops for 18 days, and the Japanese army exhausted various methods and could never attack Daigu.
Seeing that the strong attack could not work, the Japanese army turned to lure and surrender. They had a traitor stand under the throne and shout at the Eighth Route Army.
In the face of the traitors, the Eighth Route Army on the mountain replied in unison:

There was only the Eighth Route Army that died in battle, and there was no Eighth Route Army that surrendered! ”
By the 18th day, the Japanese puppet army had more than 300 casualties and was exhausted and had to withdraw from Daigu. Although the 8th Company ran out of bullets and had little food left, it only defended Daigu at the cost of sacrificing 2 people and wounding 7 people.
This battle made the 8th Company of the 11th Regiment famous in one battle, becoming the heroic company of the People's Liberation Army "Daigu Company".
Later, local farmers climbed to the top of Daigu Mountain to clean up the battlefield, and found that the top of the mountain was in a mess, and the mountain soil was blown into powder by the Japanese bomb, and even the fist-sized lumps of soil could not be found. And grabbed a handful of soil everywhere, and there were 6 pieces of shrapnel in one count!
Everyone was extremely shocked, and could not imagine how thrilling the battle situation was at that time, and how heroic the 93 soldiers were.
Of course, during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, there were many classic battles in which our army defeated the strong with the weak. Looking back at the long river of history, in that difficult war of resistance, the soldiers walked on the blade of the knife, the blood flowed, not afraid of difficulties and obstacles, and bravely killed the enemy.
