In China's modern history, there is a special local warlord force, which is the famous Dian Army. The early leader of this unit was the well-known protector general Cai Yi, who later participated in major historical events such as the Xinhai Revolution and the Patriotic Movement.
After the outbreak of the All-out War of Resistance, Wang Longyun of Yunnan province carried out a large-scale expansion of the 60th Army of the Yunnan Army, which was expanded to the size of 40,000 people, while the regular troops in Yunnan at that time were only 100,000 people. In order to improve the combat effectiveness of this unit, a full set of legal equipment was also purchased for this unit. Because this unit was well-equipped and strictly disciplined, when it first left Yunnan, Chiang Kai-shek, in order to boost the enthusiasm of the whole country for the War of Resistance, did not send this unit to the battlefield, but sent it to Wuhan for a military parade, which caused great repercussions at that time.
During the Battle of Xuzhou, the 60th Army of the Dian Army was sent to the area east of Taierzhuang, but due to Tang Enbo and other central army units leading the troops to withdraw from the position without authorization, the vanguard of the 60th Army was ambushed by the Japanese army and suffered great losses. The 60th Army immediately took control of the Yuwangshan area east of Taierzhuang, and at Yuwangshan it blocked the attack of the Japanese Banyuan Division, the two divisions of the Isogu Division and regiments of the Isoya Division with more than 50,000 people, and in the 27-day Yuwangshan Blockade Battle, the 60th Army of the Dian Army suffered as many as 20,000 casualties and annihilated 14,000 Japanese troops, making great contributions to the victory of Taierzhuang.
After the victory of the War of Resistance, this army was first sent to Vietnam to be surrendered, and then sent to the northeast to fight the civil war. Because it was a local warlord force, this unit was ostracized everywhere in the northeast, and in 1946, Pan Shuoduan, commander of the 184th Division of the 60th Army, led his troops to revolt in Haicheng, and in 1948, the 60th Army of the Dian Army revolted under the leadership of its commander Zeng Zesheng. After the uprising, the 60th Army was reorganized into the Siye 50th Army, and subsequently participated in the campaign to liberate the southwest. In October 1950, the 50th Army went to the front line of the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea with the 38th Army, the 39th Army and other Ace troops in siye.
After the 50th Army was sent to fight Korea, the first two battles were not well fought. However, after reorganization, in the third campaign, the 50th Army completely annihilated the British Royal Heavy Tank Battalion, and also took the lead with the 39th Army into Seoul, the capital of South Korea. In the fourth campaign, the 50th Army was ordered to garrison the south bank of the Han River with a part of the 38th Army, and completely defeated its own military might.
During the blockade battle on the south bank of the Han River, many troops at that time lacked confidence in the 50th Army, and the main force of the 38th Army was ready to go up at any time when it could not stop it. However, this battle surprised everyone, in the face of the attack of two infantry divisions of the Us army, two brigades of the British army, and a brigade of Turkish troops totaling more than 50,000 people, shells and aircraft bombs fell like raindrops on the defensive positions of the 50th Army, but the officers and men of the 50th Army took the battalion step by step, giving the coalition forces a hard blow, so that the coalition forces still could not take the position after paying huge casualties. Under these circumstances, the US military was also forced to find a female agent from Taiwan, shout the names of the former officers and men of the 60th Army one by one with a loudspeaker at the front of the position, and promised a high-ranking officer Houlu, but the position of the 50th Army remained unmoved.
In the blockade battle on the south bank of the Han River, more than 30,000 people of the 50th Army fought more than 10,000 people, and more than 20,000 Yunnan disciples were on the battlefield and sacrificed their lives for the country. The 50th Army also joined the ranks of the main force of the People's Liberation Army because of this battle, and the commander of the army, Zeng Zesheng, was awarded the rank of lieutenant general in 1955.
