In the Han River blockade battle, Cao Yuhai's last wish: to tell her sister-in-law that she did not lose anyone

In April 2000, it had been 47 years since the end of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. The elderly Wang Yuehua lives here in Junan County, Shandong Province, and is 84 years old.

For so many years, she didn't know where her equally miserable little uncle was now, and if he was still alive, he would be an old man in his early 70s.

Until one day, this decades-long ordeal was broken--Cao Yuhai's comrades-in-arms of the Thirty-eighth Army went through decades of painstaking efforts to find the old man Wang Yuehua, told her the news of Cao Yuhai's sacrifice, and told her about Cao Yuhai's heroic deeds in the Korean battlefield. This is also Cao Yuhai's wish, cao Yuhai sacrificed at 350.3 heights, leaving only one sentence:

Tell my sister-in-law that I didn't embarrass her!

Old Man Wang Yuehua's eyes were moist, tears of pride, but also tears of sadness. Proud of his own hand to pull the big little uncle to become a combat hero, sad is that this little uncle's life is bitter!

Old Man Wang Yuehua sat quietly for a long time, as if the whole life of this little uncle had appeared in front of him.

Cao Yuhai

Cao Yuhai, a man from a poor background in the Yimeng Mountains of Shandong Province. Although he was born into poverty, his family was harmonious and harmonious. As the saying goes: the eldest sister-in-law is like a mother, Wang Yuehua has cared for her uncle since childhood, but in 1943, all this was broken by Rikou.

Cao Yuhai's parents were brutally murdered by the Japanese Kou, and the 21-year-old Cao Yuhai chose to join the Eighth Route Army and began his military career.

With hatred for the Japanese Kou and yearning for a better life, Cao Yuhai fought bravely and with outstanding performance, and made many achievements in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, and his personal growth continued to grow.

He joined the Communist Party of China in February 1944, less than a year after he joined the army.

In September 1945, he marched with the 38th Army into the northeast, became a squad leader in October, and became a platoon leader in January 1946, growing from a soldier to a cadre.

In the northeast battlefield, he participated in more than 20 important battles, was wounded 6 times, was rated as a model of division combat 2 times, made meritorious contributions 7 times, and won 5 "bravery" medals, because of his bravery in combat and outstanding combat achievements, in March 1949, he was appointed as a battalion commander.

After the liberation of northeast China, with the 38th Army participating in the Battle of Pingjin, and then going south, it almost changed Cao Yuhai's life.

Cao Yuhai participated in the campaign to liberate Yichang with the 38th Army, as a soldier of the vanguard of the river crossing, there were no warships, only sailing ships, coupled with the bravery of the battle, Cao Yuhai was once again wounded, was sent to the local convalescence, and did not go south with the troops.

The injury made the already scarred Cao Yuhai even weaker, and Cao Yuhai was arranged to recuperate at the scenic East Lake Sanatorium in Wuhan. Here, he received the order to demobilize, and Cao Yuhai couldn't believe his ears. In fact, the organizational decision to demobilize is also understandable, after all, China has been liberated and there is no need for large-scale operations.

But Cao Yuhai could not accept all this in the short term, he missed the days and nights of those battlefield battles, missed those comrades who accompanied him day and night, so the days before receiving the order, he was in a very depressed mood, until he met a nurse at the East Lake Sanatorium.

Cao Yuhai did not want to leave the army, and the love of a female nurse in the nursing home comforted his sadness, and love seemed particularly warm in the peaceful life that had just come. After about a year, it has reached the point of talking about marriage, and Cao Yuhai has also accepted the reality of demobilization and became the director of a prison in Wuhan.

Cao Yuhai's girlfriend made a marriage request to Cao Yuhai, that day was June 25, 1950, the day of the outbreak of the Korean War, he heard the news on the radio, but he did not know what would happen next, but a thought flashed in his heart, maybe he still had a chance to return to the army, so the marriage was postponed.

The Korean War broke out

The outbreak of the Korean War posed a great threat to China's northeast border defenses, and soon the central authorities made a decision, and some of the old siye troops who had previously fought in the northeast were pulled back and formed the northeast border defense army in case of emergency.

One day, Cao Yuhai, who had nothing to do, was shopping in the streets of Wuhan, and after accidentally hearing the news that the old troops were pulling out from the south and northeast of the Yalu River, a soldier's keen sense of smell told him that something big might happen next.

The troops passed through Wuhan, so finding the old troops became the main thing for Cao Yuhai in those days, because he wanted to enlist in the army again, and he felt that the motherland still needed him as a veteran, and the kung fu paid off, and he found it.

"I'm going to enlist!"

Cao Yuhai found the old troops that were in the process of being pulled out, and strongly demanded that they join the army and go to North Korea. According to Cao Yuhai's comrade-in-arms Shi Dawei, Cao Yuhai's attitude was very resolute at that time, no matter what, Cao Yuhai had to resolutely enlist in the army, although Cao Yuhai hesitated a little when mentioning his fiancée, but he quickly strengthened his determination to enter the DPRK.

Cao Yuhai acted as his fiancée in a cruel way, and Cao Yuhai said that he did not love his fiancée anymore. His fiancée also knew that Cao Yuhai was talking angrily, that there were sacrifices in war, and that Cao Yuhai did not want to involve her. However, she still insisted on marrying Cao Yuhai, and Cao Yuhai did not agree and went north with the 38th Army.

Before Cao Yuhai entered the DPRK, he received a letter from his fiancée and a pair of embroidered pillows, the words in the letter were declarations of love, and the pillow embroidered with the unchanging heart was a keepsake of love, Cao Yuhai carried them, and on October 19, with a large army entering North Korea.

After Arriving in Korea with his troops, Cao Yuhai participated in four of the five battles fought against the enemy. Cao Yuhai's 38th Army was the ace army of Siye, so good steel was used on the blade, although in the first battle for delaying the fighter was criticized by Peng Dehuai, but then in the second battle, it played the prestige of the Banzai Army.

The first three battles went relatively smoothly, but from the fourth campaign onwards, the weaknesses of the Volunteer Army were exposed, and with the morale of the American army boosted, a bitter battle was at hand.

After the newly appointed commander of the Eighth Army, Ridgway, cleaned up the interior and launched an offensive against the Volunteer Army, and on January 27 the Chinese and North Korean People's Army was forced to stop recuperating and turn to defensive operations.

The China-DPRK Joint Command decided:

Organize a defense on the western front with one unit of troops to contain the main offensive group of the "United Nations Army"; retreat in a planned manner on the eastern front, and when the "United Nations Army" part of the situation is prominent and the flanks are exposed, concentrate the main force to carry out counterattacks and threaten the main offensive groups of the enemy on the western front from the flanks in order to shake its position and stop its attack.

The troops responsible for the defensive operations on the Han River on the western front included the 38th and 50th Armies and the 1st Army of the People's Army, and Cao Yuhai entered a difficult blockade battle with the 38th Army.

Bloody battle on the Han River

The fourth campaign began on January 26, 1951, and the fierce fighting lasted until the evening of February 4, when the Ninth Regiment of the Thirty-eighth Army received orders from the division headquarters to cross the river from Yangping, and the rapid march arrived at the designated position at 2 o'clock on February 5 to take over the defense of the second regiment on the front line of Jing'anli.

A battalion led by Cao Yuhai guarded the north of Jing'anli, and the main position was at the 350.3 heights, and after reaching the main position, Cao Yuhai and his troops immediately entered the battle.

This defensive battle was of particularly great significance, which was directly related to the stability of the defensive positions of the Thirty-eighth Army and the progress of the entire Korean war situation, and Cao Yuhai deeply felt a heavy responsibility. Deputy Jiang Yonghui personally summoned Cao Yuhai to talk, explaining the great significance of his determination to hold on to the 350.3 heights. Cao Yuhai firmly stated:

"Our battalion has not yet lost a battle, please rest assured that we will complete the task!"

When Cao Yuhai turned and left, Chang Yang Yonghui, the deputy commander of the 38th Army who was responsible for supervising the battle, was reluctant to give up, because the 38th Army was alone in the town, and the troops suffered heavy casualties, not a last resort, take such a battalion commander to fight hard, who is willing to ah!

Cao Yuhai and instructor Fang Xin took the remaining dozens of people in the battalion to the high ground and repelled hundreds of enemy attacks in seven days and seven nights. On February 12, Cao Yuhai's day was fixed on this day.

When Cao Yu was in the sea position, he set up the battalion command office on the main position of the three companies on the main peak to show that it would coexist and die with the position. Yesterday, after a desperate struggle, there were only 4 people left in the second company, and he vaguely felt that the challenges faced by the third company were not small, and he was ready to sacrifice his life; but as a bitter person who grew up with the people's army, he could not rest assured that what he could not rest assured of was his sister-in-law like a mother, and his fiancée who had decided to break up decisively.

The enemy attacked by the U.S. First Cavalry Division, which, although defeated in the battle against the 39th Army, had recovered some energy at this time, and the battle was very fierce.

Cao Yuhai led the remnants to repulse seven enemy attacks, and at 3 p.m., regimental commander Sun Hongdao called to inquire about the battle, and Cao Yuhai said only one sentence:

With Cao Yuhai there, the position is there!

While on the phone, the enemy attacked, and Cao Yuhai said to the regimental commander:

"Goodbye, Colonel!"

Immediately after entering the battle, two bullets hit his chest and head head-on, and Cao Yuhaiqiang said to the squad leader Xu Jin with his eyes open:

"I had the opportunity to tell my sister-in-law that I didn't embarrass him!"

The instructor Fang Xin also sacrificed himself on this blood-stained land of Cao Yuhai, and when the other companies came to take over the position, there were only two people left on the position.

Later, when the hero Cao Yuhai was buried, he found a pair of pillows dyed red with blood in his clothes, and a letter:

"Yuhai, my dear: The thought of you leaving me makes my heart tear like it is tearing!" Ever since I met you, I've known how a person should live. However, after all, I am still a little too focused on personal happiness, and your criticism is correct.

You're right: 'I don't need happiness, I'm not born willing to fight, but for peace, for the happiness of the working people of the world, I'm going to go to war.'

Who knows when we'll see each other, but I'm going to wait, waiting for you to come back victoriously. I embroidered a pair of pillows for you, please take it with you, just like I am by your side... I think there will always be a little time, my dear, write a letter, even if it's just a word..."

Why is the red flag picturesque, the hero's blood stained her red! Like Cao Yuhai, many officers and men of the 38th Army spilled blood on the battlefield for the victory of the counterattack on the Eastern Front, and the "Heroic Battalion for Resisting US Aggression and Aiding Korea" was the best praise for them!
