With two companies of troops, he defeated the attack of two brigades of the Sichuan Army, and later became the founding lieutenant general, who was General Zhang Caiqian.
Zhang Caiqian, a native of Macheng City, Hubei Province, when he was a child, the conditions at home were not very good, the meal was eaten on and not down, in November 1927, the jute uprising that shocked the whole country broke out here, so Zhang Caiqian joined this team, and in 1930 he officially joined the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, and a year later his superiors saw that he performed well, and introduced him to the party, and zhang Caiqian officially became a revolutionary party member.
In January 1931, Zhang Caiqian followed a large army to the Eyuwan base area, at that time Zhang Caiqian was already the squad leader of a regiment of the Red 4th Army, when Chiang Kai-shek launched many encirclements and suppressions of the Eyuwan base area, he bravely killed the enemy, and led the whole class of fighters to rush to the forefront of each battle, so Zhang Caiqian was also wounded many times. Later, the company commander came to see him and said to him: You don't want to die, where there are people like you who don't want to die in the war, at this time Zhang Caiqian said that I would not participate in the revolution if I spared my life, and this sentence made the company commander at the scene have nothing to say.
Later, under the strong encirclement and suppression of Chiang Kai-shek, the Eyu-Anhui Red Army began to move west into Sichuan. With the efforts of Zhang Guotao, Chen Changhao, Xu Shuai, Wang Weizhou, and others, the Sichuan-Shaanxi revolutionary base area was created.
The Red Army's entry into Sichuan was the most harmful to Liu Xiang, so he asked Jiang Jun to enter Sichuan to help him fight the Red Army. In early November 1933, Chiang Kai-shek appointed Liu Xiang as the commander-in-chief of the "suppression of bandits" to divide the troops into six routes and besiege the Sichuan-Shaanxi base area. However, under the command of Xu Shuai, he repelled many attacks by the Sichuan army,
The angry Chiang Kai-shek scolded the Chuan army for being incompetent, and then asked Liu Xiang to organize a large army to besiege again. For this victory, Liu Xiang also invited Liu Daxian to take the stage to pay homage to the Indians: saying that this time it will definitely be possible to destroy the Red Army. For this victory, Liu Xiang invested a total of more than 140 regiments of troops, a total of more than 100,000 people.
In the face of the enemy's powerful offensive, Xu Shuai said that this time the enemy fought to the death, and we also fought to the death, and this battle is related to a decisive battle of life and death in the revolutionary base areas of Sichuan and Shaanxi.
Under the guidance of Xu Shuai, our army was in Wanyuan, taking advantage of the favorable terrain of the high mountains and deep forests to carry out a decisive defensive battle against the Sichuan army, at this time Zhang Caiqian was ordered to lead two companies of troops to block the attacking enemy at the height of the mountain. At this moment, the two brigades of the Sichuan Army just attacked Zhang Caiqian's defensive area, and Zhang Caiqian took advantage of the favorable terrain to block the attack layer by layer, and gradually depleted the enemy army. Zhang Caiqian also let people sneak up on the Sichuan army in many different directions, so that the Sichuan army did not know how many people and horses there were in the Red Army opposite.
In this way, Zhang Caiqian, with two companies of troops, crushed the attack of two brigades of the Sichuan Army. Later, all the soldiers of the Red Army used rolling wood to beat stones, thwarting many large-scale attacks of the Sichuan army. The Battle of Wanyuan, which lasted for more than 20 days, was finally won by our army. This battle annihilated more than 10,000 people of Liu Xiang's troops.
The Battle of Wanyuan was the most arduous battle fought on the basis of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolution, and it was also the most brilliant battle. If the Defense of Wanyuan loses, the Revolutionary Base Areas in Sichuan and Shaanxi will inevitably be destroyed, so that the Red Army will not be able to receive the Response of the Red Fourth Front, and the consequences can be imagined.
In the subsequent battles, Zhang Caiqian successively experienced many years of arduous battles in the War of Resistance and the War of Liberation, like in the Liberation War, when he broke through the Central Plains and led his army to the northwest of Hubei, leading his troops to participate in the opening up of guerrilla base areas centered on the Wudang Mountains. After making a significant contribution to the transformation of the People's Liberation Army into a strategic offensive, Zhang Caiqian was awarded the rank of lieutenant general after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
