Tallinn, January 20 (Xinhua) -- The 2021-2022 FIS Four Continents Figure Skating Championships kicked off in Tallinn, estonia, on the 20th, with the United States and Japan topped the list in the pairs skating and women's singles short program competitions.

In the pairs short program competition, Chinese-American Lu Yao and partner Misha Mitrofanov ↑↑↑ won the first place with 68.35 points, teammates Chen Ziying/Spencer Horway ranked third with 64.47 points, and canadian team Evelyn Walsh / Trette Michaud ranked second with 65.42 points. All three pairs scored more than their previous individual bests.

In the women's singles short program competition, the winner of the 2016-2017 Four Continents Competition and Japan's Mai Mithara scored 72.62 points↑ to top the list, while South Korea's Lee Hae-jin and Kim Yi-lin ranked second and third with 69.97 points and 68.93 points, respectively.

In the Ice Dance Rhythm Competition, the American duo caroline Green/Michael Parsons scored 80.62 points, surpassing the previous personal best of 5 points to win the first place. Their team-mates Christina Carrera/Anthony Bonomarenko are third with 69.35 points, while Japan's Tsuneyoshi Muramoto and Daisuke Takahashi are second with 72.43 points.

According to the competition schedule, the men's singles short program and ice dance free dance competition will be held on the 21st, the women's singles and pairs free skating competition will be held on the 22nd, and the men's singles free skating and carnival performance show will be held on the 23rd.

A total of 69 figure skaters from 12 countries and regions participated in the four continents. Last season's four continents were cancelled due to COVID-19.
