The winners of the TDC Annual Communication Design Awards in New York are freshly released, and a series of works inspired by the shadow puppets in the collection of the Chengdu Museum, "Shadow Dance Vientiane", won the award!
Founded in 1946, TDC New York is the abbreviation of the New York Type Directors Club, which is the world's first typeface-based design competition award, and has now become one of the most influential type design awards and one of the most important graphic design competitions in the industry, with a high degree of professionalism. The competition attracts graphic designers, art directors, editors, multimedia majors, students, and entrepreneurs from all over the world every year, and is regarded as the bible of designers. The winning works will be published and distributed worldwide, forming an exhibition, and after the opening in New York, a global tour will be launched.
This year's award-winning works were selected by a jury composed of designers from all over the world, under the 22 sub-categories of TDC68 and 25TDC, a total of 202 works were awarded, a total of 48 award-winning works in China, and the "Shadow Dance Vientiane" series created by designer Che Liang on the basis of Chengbo shadow puppet exhibition and exhibits won the award.

In addition, the design work "Shadow And Dance Vientiane" was selected for the Tokyo TDC Awards and the 2022 Japan Type Design Association (JTA) Yearbook. The former is the highest award in the Asian graphic design industry, and the latter is one of the world's oldest graphic design exhibitions organized by the Japan Type Design Association (JTA), which collects design works based on text, symbols, graphics and application communication, and the winning works will be included in the highly acclaimed book "Applied Typography" (Chinese translation of "Best Font Design").

According to the concept of designer Che Liang, "shadow" is the soul of shadow puppetry, outlined by calligraphy brushstrokes; "shape" is the structure of shadow puppetry, which is reflected by overlapping strokes, and green and black are used as the main colors to enhance recognition. In the generalization of the traditional shadow puppet play horn posture and the expression of modern form style, it pays tribute to the Chinese shadow puppets that have been passed down for thousands of years and are all over the north and south of the great river.
