author:Gansu Private Economic Network

The War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression 77 years ago was a just war in which the great Chinese nation rose up to resist Japanese imperialist aggression, and it was also an important historical period in which the people of Jingning and the entire country and nation breathed together and shared a common destiny. In the great process of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Jingning, which was in the rear, was an important transportation line for international aid to China, a grain supply place, and an export county for anti-Japanese troops.

An inch of mountains and rivers and an inch of blood - to commemorate the Soldiers of Jingning Nationality who died in the War of Resistance Against Japan

Under the banner of the anti-Japanese national united front and the all-round line of resistance based on the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China, the people of Jingning united in the same way as the enemy and united in their will, and while donating grain, materials, and donations, many enthusiastic young people actively signed up to participate in the war. In order to save the nation from peril, they bravely participated in the torrent of the War of Resistance, resisted the frenzied attack of the invaders with their flesh and blood, and wounded, shed blood and sacrificed for the nation and the country. The footprints of Jingning soldiers have spread all over the national anti-Japanese battlefields such as Xifengkou, Lugou Bridge, Niangziguan, Xinkou, Taiyuan, Pingxingguan, Suiyuan, Taierzhuang, Zhongtiaoshan, Songhu, Zaoyi, and Changde, composing tragic and magnificent chapters of singing and weeping and bloody frontiers with blood and life. Among the 49 Pingliang soldiers who died in the Battle of Suiyuan, 41 were from Jingning. Wang Yaocheng, a communist and platoon leader of the guerrilla brigade in Huoxian County, Shanxi, died heroically in the battle against the Japanese army, and his deeds were compiled into songs and praised by the locals: "Wang Platoon Leader, Wang Yaocheng, he is a native of Jingning, Gansu." After participating in the Eighth Route Army for five years, he was a great hero of the Anti-Japanese Resistance. "Yu Xinyuan, the old Red Army, who participated in the battles of Pingxingguan, Loess Ridge, Wolf Tooth Mountain and the Battle of the Hundred Regiments, was compiled into history textbooks. Qu Yutang, a veteran of the Jingning Lei Daqucha War of Resistance, began to participate in the Great Wall Xifengkou War of Resistance in February 1933, when the Lugou Bridge Incident was a company commander who was bitterly guarding Nanyuan, when he was a cavalry battalion commander at the Battle of Taierzhuang, Linyi to block the attack, and a lieutenant colonel who accompanied Zhang Zizhong to resist the Japanese in Hubei and participated in the War of Resistance for 11 years. Fang Xiling, who participated in the Ningdu Uprising, was a native of Nanguan, Jingning Weirong, and later transferred to the 27th Division of the Second Army of the National Revolutionary Army as a major regiment deputy, and on July 8, 1937, he reinforced the 29th Army of the Lugou Bridge War of Resistance, and fought a bloody battle for nearly a month; After serving as the battalion commander, he defended Niangziguan and inflicted heavy losses on the Japanese army; In the bloody Taierzhuang, Fang Xiling's three divisions of the Second Army had more than 30,000 people, and 27,000 people sacrificed their lives for the country.

Although there are a large amount of information in the archives of the Republic of China on the exact number of people participating in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Jingning County, the year is incomplete and the townships are incomplete, which is not enough evidence. According to the Gansu Provincial Recruit Recruitment Office (later renamed the Gansu Division District Preparatory Office), the military and political department of the National Government should recruit 5,000 soldiers per month in Gansu. According to the 66 counties after the reform of the new county governance, each county provides an average of about 900 soldiers per year. During the eight-year War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, a populous county like Jingning was conservatively estimated to have between 5,000 and 7,000 soldiers. In addition, according to the "Eight-Year War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression" compiled by the "History and Political Compilation Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense", Appendix 10 "Statistics table of the number of zhuangding in various provinces during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression" lists 383857 troops exported during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Gansu, with an average of about 5,800 people in the county. It can be seen that the results of the two calculations are roughly the same.

I. The Jingning anti-Japanese martyrs in the "Chronicle of Jingning County"

According to the above method, during the War of Resistance Against Japan, at least more than 5,000 enthusiastic men and children in Jingning County rushed to the front, but unfortunately, most of them went east to resist the Japanese and never heard from them, and they died (or were exiled) in battle, leaving no names or any information. For many years, the fallen soldiers of the Anti-Japanese War in Jingning County have been subject to the 1993 edition of the "Chronicle of Jingning County". In the fourth chapter of the "Jingning County Chronicle" and the "Directory", for the first time, 102 people in the "Kuomintang Anti-Japanese Fallen Soldiers" were sorted out, including names, ranks, unit numbers, places of origin, time of death and place of death, which is exactly the same as the "Gansu Provincial Civil Affairs Department Files" file number 15-2-213 in the Gansu Provincial Archives. The 2014 edition of the "History of Jingning of the Communist Party of China" excerpted from the "History of Jingning County" and revised the title "Kuomintang Anti-Japanese Fallen Soldiers" to "Jingning Anti-Japanese Non-Commissioned Officers" in accordance with the style of the History of the Communist Party of China; Add "Chinese Army" before the unit number. Its directory is as follows:

In the "List", the two "Yang Fucheng" not only have the same name, but also have the same rank, unit number, place of origin, time of death, and place of death, which is suspected of being duplicated, so the 1993 edition of the "Jingning County Chronicle" Jingning Kuomintang anti-Japanese fallen soldiers should be 101 people, plus Wang Yaocheng, a communist party member clearly recorded in the historical history of the party, the total number should be 102. The surname of "Yutai" is not known, and the archives of the Government of the Republic of China in Jingning show it as "Liang Yutai".

2. The Jingning anti-Japanese fallen soldiers on the memorial wall of the Lanzhou Eighth Route Army Office

Yuan Zhixue, director of the memorial hall of the Lanzhou Eighth Route Army Office and an expert in the history of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Gansu Province, cooperated with experts and scholars from the Provincial Archives, the Party History Research Office of the Provincial Party Committee, the School of History of Lanzhou University, and other units to sort out 2,998 anti-Japanese fallen soldiers in Gansu Province, and set up a memorial wall in the memorial hall of the Lanzhou Eighth Route Army Office, preserving precious historical materials of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression for Gansu, of which 126 were jingning anti-Japanese martyrs. (See figure below).

3. Anti-Japanese fallen soldiers in the archives of the Jingning County Government of the Republic of China (No. 48 Quanzong).

In the Jingning Archives, the jingning county government archives of the Republic of China, about 10,500 volumes, are rich in content and all-encompassing, and there is no shortage of first-hand information on the participation of the jingning people in the War of Resistance, but due to the long time, poor paper quality and other reasons, the lack and damage to insects and insects are serious. Coupled with the man-made destruction of the Kuomintang Jingning government during the retreat, the existing archives are not coherent. Since 2011, the state has implemented the "National Key Archives Rescue" project, and after more than 10 years of rescue and mounting by the staff of the archives, more than 4,200 volumes of archives have been sorted out and accessible.

The Jingning County Party History Office and the Jingning Archives organized party history workers to sort out 170 Jingning anti-war veterans in addition to the "Chronicle of Jingning County" and the "Lanzhou Eighth Route Army Office" by consulting the "Register of Requests for Requests for The Death of Officers and Soldiers of the Military Commission's Pension Committee" during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the "Certificate of the Death of Soldiers in Wartime Army," the "Telegram from the Pension Office of the Military Commission in Shaanxi Province," the "Survey Book of the Names of the Survivors of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression in Jingning County, Gansu Province," and the "Pension Certificate," and other original materials, and sorted out the "Records of Jingning County" and the materials of the Eighth Route Army Office in Lanzhou, and their list is as follows:

An inch of mountains and rivers and an inch of blood - to commemorate the Soldiers of Jingning Nationality who died in the War of Resistance Against Japan

Based on the above information, the total number of Jingning anti-war fallen soldiers should be 297. Of course, this number is only a small part of all the anti-war fallen soldiers in Jingning, and a large number of anti-war victims have been lost in the dust of history, and their names cannot be verified today. There are still some dust sealed in the archives of the Republic of China that have not yet been rescued and repaired, waiting for our further excavation.

The list of 297 soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression that we have compiled today will leave us not only the heroic names of the warriors of Jingning, but the collective memory of our Jingning people. When the poor and weak China was trampled and humiliated by the Japanese imperialist powers, the warm-blooded men of Jingning stepped forward, and they faced the bayonets of the Japanese with their chests, leaving the tragic back to their compatriots; They walk towards death without hesitation, leaving their vitality to their hometown fathers and elders; For the sake of the country and the nation, the bloody battle to the end, vowing not to retreat, preferring to fight to the last pawn, the last drop of blood, has not yielded... For the sake of national independence and national independence, they dedicated their most precious youth to the era of "an inch of mountains and rivers and an inch of blood" at an age of prosperity. The great cohesion and spirit of the War of Resistance of the Chinese nation forged by them together with millions of soldiers of the War of Resistance throughout the country deserve our eternal praise!
