Due to a problem with the logic control of the door unlocking of the vehicle within the scope of this recall, the latch of the non-collision side door may be detached from the latch in the event of a collision, leaving the door in a non-locking state, which is a potential safety hazard.

Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will use the vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology to upgrade the software for the vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge to prevent the door latch from disengaging from the latch during the vehicle collision. Users don't need to come to the store to complete the software upgrade. For vehicles that cannot be recalled through OTA technology, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will contact relevant users through Tesla service centers to upgrade the software for free to eliminate potential safety hazards.

Emergency measures: Users are advised to drive the vehicle with caution before the implementation of the vehicle recall, and upgrade the vehicle software as soon as possible after receiving the recall software update notice.

Tesla recalled 2.03 million vehicles due to self-driving issues

According to Beijing Daily on December 14, 2023, on December 13, 2023, the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed that Tesla announced the recall of more than 2.03 million vehicles, involving the 2012-2023 Model S, 2016-2023 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3 and 2020-2023 Model Models Y, covering all models equipped with FSD Beta (Full Self-Driving) software.

The move comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducted a years-long defect investigation that will continue as the agency says it will also continue to monitor the effectiveness of Tesla's subsequent recalls.

A spokesperson for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the investigation found that Tesla had insufficient means to keep drivers engaged and unable to ensure that drivers still maintained sufficient attention while the system started self-driving. At the same time, the agency warned that the full self-driving (FSD Beta) of the brand's vehicles could lead to unsafe behavior in the vicinity of intersections, such as going straight in lanes that can only turn, not fully stopping at intersections that require full stopping, or rushing into an intersection when a yellow light is on. These actions pose an unnecessary risk to road safety.

It is reported that Tesla plans to solve this problem through OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, that is, remote software updates to devices through wireless communication technology. Elon Musk, the company's CEO, has expressed his displeasure with the use of the word "recall", which he believes is anachronistic and completely wrong to describe OTA updates. He had previously advised the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to stop referring to OTA software updates as "recalls" because they are not physical recalls, and using the term "recall" could cause unnecessary psychological stress on car owners and negatively impact brand reputation.
