Rumours over the weekend suggest Manchester United have made a breakthrough in a deal to bring in Bologna striker Joshua Zirkze. Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS team and the player's representative, Horabchin, have agreed on a fee to negotiate a commission. Because Zirkze's contract has a €40 million (£34 million) break clause, the Red Devils can bring in him as long as it is activated.

Following Anthony Martial's departure from his contract this summer, Hojlund is the only centre-forward option in the squad. Zirkze is seen as a potential new no.9 for United, who scored 12 goals and provided seven assists last season and is seen by his fellow Dutchman Ten Hag as a more diverse style of play.

If Zirkze is signed, United will have two different centre-forwards. Hojlund is a traditional number 9 who can be a threat with his speed, power, athleticism and shooting, while Zirkze has playmaking qualities and is able to dribble and pass the ball and will offer something different in terms of creativity, and his idols are Ibrahimovic and Barty.

With Manchester United's budget limited this summer and net spending having to be around £55 million, a cost-effective player like Zirkze, who has a release clause, has become the first choice for Rajue. He is currently representing the Netherlands at the European Championships, but that doesn't stop the agent from negotiating with Manchester United.

The 23-year-old doesn't disagree much with United on his personal treatment, so the key is the commissions of the agent, Khorabchin. His £13 million claim for AC Milan stalled the transfer, but United had a good relationship with him and the Iranian-born Englishman agreed to a "discount" of £8.5 million. This means that United will need to spend a total of £42.5 million (€50 million) to sign Zirkze.

Interestingly, Khorabchin was not Zirkze's agent, and he was banned from working as a broker because of past violations. But that didn't stop him from participating in the deal in other capacities and demanding money from Manchester United. Football journalist Nick Semerano says Manchester United have agreed a fee with Horabuchin and that a "agreement in principle" has been reached.

However, the deal is not yet complete, because on the one hand, Ten Hag and Rajue have not yet made up their minds to choose Zirkze, and at the same time, Zirkze, who is playing in the European Championships, has not been able to make final negotiations with Manchester United, who also have a number of options at their disposal, and Manchester United is only one of them.

On a competitive level, Zirkze prefers AC Milan, but United boss Erik ten Hag still has a chance to convince him. Zirkze intends to wait until the Netherlands have played the European Championship before deciding on his next home.

Sky Sports journalist Darmesh Shess confirmed: "Manchester United are willing to have a €40 million release clause in the contract to activate Bologna striker Zirkze, and once that happens, it will be up to the player to decide whether he wants to move or not. Other clubs, such as Milan, still have a strong interest in him."

United allegedly paid twice as much commission to Zirkze's agent as AC Milan, and Horabuchin demanded that the Rossoneri match the same amount, but Ibrahimovic, one of Zirkze's idols and the Milan negotiator, refused to do so.

Manchester United are also interested in another Ligue 1 player, Lille striker Jonathan Davy. The 24-year-old has one year left on his contract and is not planning to sign a new contract, so he is expected to be sold by Ligue 1 sides this summer for a £25million price tag. Davy, who has scored 84 goals in 183 games, is currently playing in the Copa America and Chelsea are rumoured to be the first to negotiate.

With any signings set to take place after July, and with players all playing in the national team and lacking skills, it seems unlikely that Rajue and Ten Hag will be in a hurry to make a decision right away, as they want to decide on the best and cheapest of them.
