Three years ago, the Polestar 2 debuted in the US market. At the time, Polestar was all in, and the first car we reviewed was a long-range version with a (very nice) performance package. Soon, they introduced entry-level models with more modest performance.
Maybe I was attracted to this Swedish electric car brand because the brand's corporate identity is very visually appealing. I dare say that the years I spent in art college left me something useful. But Polestar isn't just doing a great job with branding. The visually pleasing elements are also reflected in the design of their cars.
In that regard, the revamped Polestar 2 still looks fresh and, more importantly, never goes out of style. On the surface, the biggest change is the new flat body color grille, while the rest of the car remains largely unchanged.
For those unfamiliar with the Polestar 2, it's essentially a "raised compact fastback", which is smart because it straddles sedan, coupe and SUV segments while being smaller – which means it's easier to achieve. It was just the right combination, as they were pushing their first mass-market car to the ...... at the time Market.
You can still get the same interior, which isn't a bad thing. Our cars feature Light Ash Deco interiors, which combine perfectly with recycled Weave Tech materials, which make up the majority of the dashboard. For drivers, the font and design of the 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster display is arguably one of the most beautiful examples I've ever seen on a car dashboard. In the middle of the dashboard, the facelifted Polestar 2 retains the same 11.15-inch portrait touchscreen, which runs the now-familiar Google Android-based operating system. There's also a 15W wireless charging pad, which is very useful if you do need to charge your mobile device. The audio is handled by a 13-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system.
To allow more light to enter the cabin, all Polestar 2 cars are equipped with a full-size sunroof with a reflective Polestar logo. Overall, there's plenty of room for four passengers, while the luggage compartment highlights its Volvo roots, as it has a clever divider that separates shopping bags from sportswear, or dry and wet goods...... Or, if you happen to have a pair of fighting twins, you can split their items into two parts; Whether it's groceries or sportswear...... You know.
So...... Here's the point – the way it drives. The main change in the standard series of single-motor cars is that they now have rear-wheel drive, which improves the start under the lights. What's more (for me) is that it's more stable in corners than it used to be. The twin-tube frequency-dependent shock does a great job of finding the sweet spot between handling and comfort. However, I wish they had padded the firewall a little more, as it would still make some noise. On the bright side, now that the car is rear-wheel drive, the noise is less noticeable. In addition, the Polestar 2's regenerative braking setup is a bit buried in the infotainment system.

The rear motor is equipped with a high-efficiency new silicon carbide inverter, not just a bolt-on drive from the front to the rear. Here, it produces 272 hp and 490 Nm (up from 231 hp and 330 Nm) and reaches the benchmark level of 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds (under 7.4 seconds...... If you ask me, it's not shabby at all. Polestar also says the new motor is more efficient. Combined with a 69kWh lithium-ion battery that also has a different/improved chemical composition, a standard-range single-motor car is now capable of driving 546 km (up from 482 km). In comparison, the RWD standard range Tesla Model 3 outputs 279 horsepower, 420 Nm, and has a range of 513 km. So yes...... Things look good!
And they look even better! The official figure is 14.8-17.2kWh/100km. I easily managed 13.9kWh/100km myself.
As for charging, the Polestar 2 can accept up to 135 kW of direct current and charge from 10% to 80% in 34 minutes. It takes 7 hours from empty power to AC charging.
I love that Polestar doesn't have to do much to give their entry-level cars a new look, which is a hallmark of good design. But overall, they brought us a product that was much better than when they first launched. If you ask me, in the Polestar 2 Series, this standard model is worth buying.
But I have to say that if you want to buy a sedan/express car, the competition is quite fierce. This includes the aforementioned Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, Hyundai IONIQ 6, and the BMW i4 eDrive35 that goes to the next level.
