炵クラオブルワリーアンドディスティラリー (abbreviation: サクラオB&D, English: SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery Co., Ltd., hereinafter referred to as: SBD, formerly Chugoku Brewery Co., Ltd., just renamed SBD on March 9, 2021) was founded in 1918 and is located in Sakurao 1-chome, Hiroshima Tsutsukaichi City, close to the Sedo Inland Sea, and the well-known whisky brand Tohanoi belongs to SBD. In 2017, to commemorate and celebrate the 100th anniversary of SBD, SBD built a new whisky distillery, Sakurao Steamer, where its headquarters is located, Sakurao Itchome, and in 2021, it debuted two single malt whisky (hereinafter referred to as "Sakuraoi + Sakurao! The first set of Japanese single malt whisky from the Japanese Sakura Distillery will be launched.
In 2024, Taiwan's Whisky Taste (WT) will launch a series of Meilan Bamboo Chrysanthemum Junzi Flower Language Single Cask Whisky in collaboration with SBD, and the first liquor "Mei" will also be released, as detailed in "Only 183 Bottles! The first liquor of the Meilan Bamboo Chrysanthemum Gentleman Flower Language Single Cask Whisky Series "Plum" was launched.
Also released is Ran, which is distilled at the Sakurao Steaming House, and all the raw sake is matured in SBD's tunnel cellar (which is located in a 387-metre-long train tunnel an hour's drive from the Sakurao Steaming House). The tunnel was originally planned to be built for use by JR trains in Japan, but was abandoned due to the interruption of construction. SBD took a fancy to the constant temperature and humidity of the tunnel all year round, so it was rented and converted into a wine cellar. Distilled in August 2019 and matured in Islay Cask casks with cask number 5287, it has a light peated smoke and was bottled in October 2023 at a 4 year age with 52% ABV and a capacity of 700ml with a bottle size of 192 bottles.
The wine has been on sale since June 2024 and will only be sold in Taiwan, China, with an official suggested retail price of NT$6,980, or about RMB1,570 at the current exchange rate.
