If fashion is a circus, who will be the actors in it? In a recent show at Paris Fashion Week, emerging fashion designer Colm Dillane, who has taken a place in international fashion haute couture menswear, gave the answer with his own creativity and work - marionettes. This kind of marionette, which frequently appears in the theater field, is now on the runway, and this show has undoubtedly refreshed people's eyes!

Colm Dillane was born in New York City in 1991 to a Spanish (artist-turned-teacher) mother and an Irish (fisherman) father. Although he spent his childhood in Mexico and Beloit, Wisconsin, he was an out-and-out East-Side native. It was when he returned to New York at the age of 13 that his sensitivity to clothing was awakened.

Colm Dillane attended Brooklyn Tech and quickly developed a keen sense of the fashion value and cool currency of the fashion capital. To this end, he and his closest classmates began designing their own screen-printed t-shirts so that they could dress more fashionably among their peers. Just a few months later, Colm Dillane and others noticed the need for their creative ideas and began selling t-shirts in their high school cafeteria. Before enrolling at NYU to pursue a degree in mathematics, he founded a multi-purpose company, KidSuper, which became popular. KidSuper aims to breathe life into the streetwear scene.

When Colm Dillane was kicked out of his dorm room in his sophomore year of college, the catalyst for KidSuper came along as he spray-painted the wall of his bedroom and turned it into a streetwear store. He bought a retail space on Broadway avenue in Brooklyn to eat, sleep, work and create, and he turned a turquoise-colored store into his studio. After graduating, he devoted his energy to making artistic costumes, which mostly echoed his whimsical and outgoing personality. The coat is adorned with original painted patterns, and those silly scribbles are enough to excite colleagues who are also young people, including = patchwork pants combined with collision patterns. Soon, his products gained a cult following locally, including the late rapper Mac Miller.

As Colm Dillane became more and more concerned in the clothing industry, even the internationally renowned luxury brand Louis Vuitton (Louis Vuitton) threw an olive branch to him, and co-designed Louis Vuitton's menswear collection and show for Fall/Winter 2023 with Louis Vuitton's menswear studio, thus giving him his own place in the field of international fashion haute couture menswear.

Colm Dillane's greatest design work to date is arguably not his clothes, but his fashion shows. Ever since he and his brand managed to get into the calendar of Parisian fashion shows and then won a cameo from Louis Vuitton, he has realized that these shows can be what he calls a "Trojan horse of ideas".

At the Kidsuper Spring/Summer 2025 runway at Paris Fashion Week, he returned to his favorite element: the stage. Colm Dillane's first foray into the world of fashion marked Cirque du Soleil's first foray into the fashion industry with the Cirque du Soleil, a 19th-century concert hall in Paris' Montmartre district.

A hair-hanging artist, a German wheel performer, a trapeze artist and a stilt performer appear in this dazzling spectacle called "Everything in the Air". Here, the models' arms are tied to giant paper machine hands, guiding them around the stage. Colm Dillane recycled many of his old ideas, including costumes printed with images of the puppets worn by circus performers and Alton Mason, who slid across the stage like a disjointed marionette to kick off the show.

The show begins with circus acrobat Mai Yamashi, creating a connection point between the two collaborators. In the spotlight, she sits under a giant prop hand, from where the rope hangs down to her limbs. Using the cutting of light between her movements to create a freeze-frame effect, she becomes a clearly activated puppet. Then the lights light up the runway line on the catwalk.

Male and female models followed, imprinting mannequins (couture puppets) on the cut, and then sketching the acrobats in pencil in a controversial extension. KidSuper's streetwear section features patched denim shorts, crystal-speckled jeans, face-collaged varsity jackets and shirts with Puma co-op hats. Later, a model wore a suit embroidered with the hands of a vaudeville and a tent hat woven by the circus. In the final performance, eight acrobats put on an exciting performance, followed by Colm Dillane, the protagonist of the evening, who triumphantly walked up in a piano key tie.

This season's collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, Colm Dillane's paintings can be found on everything from red circus master suits to panelled leather jackets, reflecting the brand's growing sophistication. KidSuper has also launched a "special capsule collection" of co-branded products with Cirque du Soleil.

Blending the worlds of circus and theatre, the collection emphasizes that great art is rarely created in isolation, with a wide range of clothing including blazers, denim jackets, leather coats, coats, tights, sleeveless tops, shirts, knitwear, dresses, jeans, trousers, shorts, and more. Each piece has a unique combination of prints, fabric textures and tones that reaffirm KidSuper's signature sense of humor.
