The Guidelines clarify the principles and general provisions for the use of foreign languages when setting up foreign language signs and signs in public places, which are used to guide the evaluation, design, construction and acceptance of foreign language signs and signs in public places, and are applicable to the installation and adjustment of foreign language signs and signs in public places where both Chinese and foreign languages are used.
2. The public places provided for in the Guidelines refer to places that are open to unspecified persons and are used by unspecified persons to enter, stay and use. 3. 1. When English is used on foreign language road traffic signs, the place name adopts Chinese pinyin, and the special noun of traffic signs adopts the translation of the provisions of "Road Traffic Signs and Markings" (GB5768). The English translation of other information shall be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Hainan Provincial Local Standard "Code for English Translation of Signs and Signs in Public Places" (DB46/T 506) and Article 1.3.5 of the Guidelines.
2. The classification, color, shape, line, character, figure and size of foreign language road traffic signs shall comply with the provisions of the corresponding part of the "Road Traffic Signs and Markings" (GB5768).
3. The setting of foreign language road traffic signs should be aimed at road users who are not familiar with the surrounding road network system but have a certain plan for the driving route, and meet the following principles:
a. Meet the needs of Chinese and foreign road users at the same time. b. Attract the attention of road users. c. Deliver a clear, concise message. d. Improve road user compliance.
e. Provide sufficient time for road users to respond reasonably.
4. Foreign language road traffic signs on highways and urban roads should be set up in a coordinated manner.
5. The setting of foreign language road traffic signs should be comprehensive, systematic, continuous and balanced, so as to avoid information overload, insufficient information or contradictory and ambiguous content of Chinese and foreign words.
6. Foreign language road traffic signs for new or renovated or expanded highways should be put into use simultaneously with civil works.

2. The Chinese in the guidance signs, tourist area signs, notice signs and auxiliary signs should be in simplified Chinese characters and meet the following requirements: a. Standardized and unambiguous. b. Place-name information is arranged from left to right, from top to bottom. A place name should not be written in two lines or columns; The text on a sign should not be both horizontal and vertical. c. There should be no more than 2 kinds of characters on the sign, and unless otherwise specified, Chinese characters should be ranked above Hanyu Pinyin or foreign languages. Chinese characters and pinyin or foreign languages are aligned in the middle or left. d. signs in English, place names should be in accordance with the provisions of "road traffic signs and markings" (GB 5768) and "place name signs" (GB 17733) using Chinese pinyin, pinyin rules according to the "Chinese place names Chinese pinyin alphabet spelling rules (Chinese place names part)" implementation; The special nouns of traffic signs shall be translated according to the provisions of "Road Traffic Signs and Markings" (GB 5768); The translation of the rest of the information shall be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Hainan Provincial Local Standard "Code for English Translation of Signs and Signs in Public Places" (DB46/T 506) or Article 1.3.5 of the Guidelines.
