Recently, on the third floor of Xuhui District New Era Civilization Practice Center and Xujiahui Academy, a reading club entitled "How to Look at the Truth and Fiction of History - Returning to the Real Historical Context to Talk about the Study of Intellectual History" was held, and the scene was full. The reading session was held in the form of a dialogue between Yang Nianqun, a professor at the Institute of Qing History at the Chinese People's University, who brought his new book "Ask: A New History of Chinese Thought," and Liu Hui, a history teacher at Nanyang High School in Xuhui District. The two sides started a discussion about the history of Chinese thought about the book.
Yang Nianqun, currently serving as the deputy director of the Institute of Qing History of Chinese University, the director of the Qing History Research Center of Chinese University, the key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, and a member of the National Qing History Compilation Committee, has long been committed to the research of Chinese political history, social history and ideological history, and has published many works. His book "Asking the Dao: A New History of Chinese Thought" abandons the traditional writings on the history of thought and only focuses on the writing of specific characters and works, and extracts six major themes, including the view of the world, orthodoxy, Confucianism, Lao Zhuang wisdom, Neo-Confucianism, and Chinese Buddhism.
In the preface to the book, "The Beginning of the Words: What to Write in This History of Thought", Yang Nianqun mentioned: "Words such as 'Wufu', 'Wulun' and 'Wuchang' often appear in ancient documents, and the most mentioned of them is 'Heaven and Earth Monarch'. 'Heaven' is 'Mandate of Heaven', 'Earth' is 'Geography', 'Jun' is 'Emperor', 'Qin' is 'Ancestor', and 'Teacher' is 'Context'. ”
During the meeting, Liu Hui, a history teacher, asked Yang Nianqun various questions about Chinese history, philosophy, and the evolution of thought from the perspective of readers and students. Yang Nianqun replied one by one. When asked what kind of "Dao" is asked about the "Dao" in the title of the book, Yang Nianqun replied: "'Dao' is a broad concept in China, which not only has the meaning of the road, but also contains the principles and values in the sense of secular life, and can also be a transcendent and metaphysical concept, which we need to pursue and ask questions, and do not need to be separated to understand." ”
