The new Porsche 911 GT3 is tested at the Nürburgring

author:Famous car appreciation

The Porsche 911 GT3 is one of the best models currently on sale. With the launch of the facelifted 911 last month, it was only a matter of time before these updates were gradually applied to the entire 911 family. A spy video from the Nürburgring released this week gives us a better look at the latest version of the much-loved 911 model.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 is expected to retain its "crown jewel" with a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated boxer-six engine. The roar coming from the twin exhaust pipes installed in the center of the test car proves that the engine is still in service. Compared to the 510 horsepower of the current GT3, the new model may not be much of a boost in power. The big rear wing is still there, and some minor design tweaks may be made.

The exterior lighting is all-new, with the new design borrowed from the lower-spec 992.2 model, which debuted at the end of May. The front and rear bumpers have also been updated with a custom shape. But the new look may not be representative of the final product. This is because during the testing phase, Porsche will often use non-production-spec bumpers on prototypes, while in final production it may use a completely different design.

The test drivers did not hold back in this track test, allowing the GT3 to show its performance to the fullest. Move the car sideways and repeatedly hit the rev limiter to test the limits of the GT3. The new car looks as good as ever, and that's exactly what we want to see from Porsche's supercar on the track.

Judging by the speed of shifting, it is clear that the prototype in the video is equipped with Porsche's PDK dual-clutch gearbox, rather than a manual transmission. There is no word yet on whether Porsche plans to keep the manual transmission in this new GT3. But considering that a large portion of the GT3s currently on sale are equipped with manual gear levers, it is not expected that the manual transmission will disappear anytime soon. It is possible that this new GT3 will come with a dual-clutch transmission as standard, with a manual transmission as an option.
