Graham · Potter has revealed he is "ready" to return to management after being nominated as one of the potential candidates to succeed Gareth · Southgate as England manager.
Southgate announced his resignation on Tuesday, just days after missing the opportunity to lift the European trophy with his country. He led the Three Lions for eight years and became one of the most successful managers in the country. The list of potential successors to him is already long, with Mauricio· Pochettino, Eddie · Howe and even Jurgen · Klopp among the candidates to replace him. Another name on the list is Graham Potter, who has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in April 2023.
Graham Potter's managerial career took a hit after a disappointing period for the Blues, who led the team to just 31 games. However, the former defender admitted he was ready to return to the bomb shelter, despite his refusal to be called up to the England squad.
"Today is not the day to talk about [England vacancies]," Graham Potter told Sky Sports News. "I'm proud of the work Gareth · Southgate has done. As an United Kingdom in football, I don't think anyone is more respected than him and how he behaves himself, he and his staff, qualifying for the game, getting into the game and getting the country to support the team, he's done a fantastic job. "I wish him all the best, I want him to rest well and whatever he decides to do next, I wish him well."
Since leaving Chelsea, Graham Potter has been linked with several open positions. Talks have been held with Ajax and Graham Potter has even been rumoured to be returning to Brighton dramatically, but he has yet to accept a new position.
'I spoke to a lot of teams and clubs but I realised that the journey was a long one, a difficult one,' he explained. "I'm not in a hurry to get back into football unless the right opportunity arises. It has to work for me. "It's important that I stay patient, wait for the right opportunity, and take the time to reflect and think about what I want to do with my family. Now I'm in a great position and I'm happy to be ready and looking forward to the next challenge."
"I had a good rest. From where I started to where I ended, the journey wasn't free. With a young family, and everything that comes with being a football manager, I moved to three countries. For me, it's important to rest, reflect and re-energize. It's a great time to see other things, other sports, other teams, and places to visit. "When the right opportunity came, I was really ready and really excited to come back. I'll be happy if it's like the last 12 years. ”
