Chrysanthemum, in traditional Chinese culture, symbolizes nobility, tenacity and longevity. Qi Baishi has a soft spot for chrysanthemums, and he integrates this emotion into his paintings, making each chrysanthemum full of the tension of life and the breath of nature. According to Tang Fazhou, Qi Baishi's chrysanthemum painting method has distinctive characteristics: the petals are scattered and the layers are distinct; The flower center is delicately dyed, vivid and realistic; The leaves are of appropriate shades and variety. These details are not only the embodiment of Qi Baishi's personal style, but also the result of his deep understanding of life and nature in the process of painting.

The reason why Qi Baishi's works are moving is not only his exquisite skills, but more importantly, the deep feelings he conveys through his brushwork. In the work "Longevity", Qi Baishi uses a large number of elements that symbolize auspicious longevity, such as pine cranes, Ganoderma lucidum, peaches, etc., but what he is best at are those seemingly simple but infinitely meaningful small scenes. For example, the clusters of blooming chrysanthemums are not only a praise for the vitality of the natural world, but also a blessing for human beings to pursue a better life. Through the nuanced depiction of chrysanthemums, Qi Baishi integrates his life perception and aesthetic concept, so that the viewer can feel a spiritual resonance that transcends time and space in the process of appreciation.

As a descendant of Qi Baishi, Tang Fazhou not only inherited the essence of Qi school art, but also conducted in-depth research and exploration on this basis. He believes that the appraisal of Qi Baishi's works should not only focus on the overall composition and color matching, but also start from the subtleties, especially those that are easily overlooked. For example, the chrysanthemum painting method in "Longevity" is an important basis for judgment. Only by truly understanding and mastering the characteristics of Qi Baishi's chrysanthemums can we discern pearls and find real treasures in the complex art market.
