Quick guide
Apple's planned AI feature, Apple Intelligence, will be launched later than expected and won't be released at the same time as a software update for the new iPhone and iPad. According to people familiar with the matter, the features are expected to roll out in a regular software update in October, with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 coming live a few weeks after the September release. Apple also plans to pass the beta versions of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 as soon as possible, allowing developers to conduct early testing. Apple Intelligence will use artificial intelligence to generate text, images, and more for iPad and Mac devices with the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and M1 chip and above. In addition, Apple decided at the end of June to postpone the release of three new AI features due to the requirements of the EU's new technology regulations to ensure compatibility with competing products.
Artificial intelligence feature release delay
(Reuters) - Apple's long-awaited artificial intelligence feature will be rolled out later than expected and will not coincide with the first release of software updates for the new iPhone and iPad, Bloomberg reported on Sunday. According to people familiar with the matter, Apple plans to roll out Apple Intelligence to users in a regular software update in October. These AI features are expected to go live a few weeks after the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, and Bloomberg notes that these system updates are scheduled for September.
Developer testing
Apple plans to pass the beta versions of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 as soon as possible, enabling software developers to conduct early testing, the report mentions. This marks the first time that developers have been able to explore the various features of Apple Intelligence. At the same time, Apple did not respond immediately to the delay outside of normal business hours.
Enhancement & Compliance Challenges
In June, Apple reaffirmed its commitment to artificial intelligence in response to declining sales by introducing numerous new features and software improvements. Apple Intelligence uses artificial intelligence to generate text, images, and a variety of content on demand, and will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac devices with the M1 chip and later. In addition, the iPhone mirroring feature on MacOS Sequoia allows users to view and interact with their phone screen on Mac computers. The report comes on the heels of Apple's decision to postpone the release of three new AI features at the end of June, in response to new EU regulations that force the company to ensure compatibility with competing products and services.
