After the first day of the Olympic men's gymnastics qualifiers, the team final has been decided. China and Japan dominated the qualifying round, finishing the top two in the team standings.
China's Zhang Boheng also led the individual all-around qualifiers, followed by Japan's Nobusuke Oka.
The United States team struggled on the first day of competition and currently sits fifth in the team competition.
The top eight teams will advance to the team finals, but United States will need to make some progress if they want to compete for a podium spot for the first time since 2008.
Frederick · Richard earned the highest score for Team United States, followed by Paul · Juda. Brody · Malone was the only player on the team to return to the Olympics, but he did not perform well in the opening game.
