The seeds of science planted by the father of the writer
Throughout the ages, there has been such a group of people who have illuminated the world of science with the light of wisdom and shaped the future of mankind with their outstanding contributions. Academician Chen Jiaer is one such outstanding scientist and educator who has made remarkable contributions to scientific research and education.
In the field of scientific research, Academician Chen Jiaer's achievements have attracted worldwide attention. He has presided over a number of national scientific research projects and achieved many pioneering results, which not only improved the research level of the mainland in the field of accelerators, but also attracted the attention of the international physics community
However, time flies, Mr. Chen Jiaer is now 90 years old, and he officially retired at the age of 84, dedicating his life to the country. Although he has retired, Academician Chen Jiaer still insists on sitting in front of the computer every day to work, and will also take time out every day to read newspapers, pay attention to national development, and social current affairs.
And why did Academician Chen Jiaer embark on the road of serving the country with science? This stems from his father, Chen Bochui, a famous Chinese children's writer known as the "Hans Christian Andersen of the East". According to Academician Chen Jiaer's recollection, it was a thunderstorm night, and Chen Jiaer, who was only 6 years old, felt a little scared and went to find his father, who was writing in the study. In order to divert Chen Jiaer's attention, Chen Bochui asked, "Do you know why there is thunder?" ”
The young Chen Jiaer didn't understand anything at that time, and Tong Yan Wuji said: "The grandmother next door said that it was because Thunder God's father-in-law wanted to split the unfilial son."
Chen Bochui, who heard this, told Chen Jia'er that it was wrong and told him the cause of the thunder and lightning. But Chen Jiaer was still confused, so Chen Bochui did a small experiment of "triboelectric electricity", which was the first time Chen Jiaer felt the mystery of physics.
Through this entertaining and educational way, Chen Bochui planted a seed of scientific truth-seeking in the young and ignorant Chen Jiaer's heart. Chen Bochui also often told Chen Jiaer to "save the country with science and technology", "to contribute to the country" and so on, these words were all kept in mind by Chen Jiaer. It is also under the influence of his father and his own efforts that Chen Jiaer grew up to become a pioneer of accelerator research in the field of nuclear physics in mainland China and started his accelerated life.
There are "accelerators" everywhere in life
What kind of magical existence is an accelerator? Why does it play a vital role in so many areas? The importance of accelerators in physics cannot be overlooked, as they are important tools for exploring the microstructure of matter, the origin of the universe, and the development of new materials.
An accelerator is a device that artificially accelerates charged particles to higher energies, and is often used for basic research such as chemistry, radiation biology, radiation medicine, and solid-state physics, as well as industrial photography, and the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. For example, in the hospital, X-rays are generated by CT scans that accelerate electrons to a certain energy through an "accelerator" and hit a metal target.
It can be seen that "accelerators" are also everywhere in our lives, and Peking University has built a building for China's first 4.5MV electrostatic accelerator. How important is this machine?
