Preface:
In 1949, as soon as the second KMT-CCP peace talks ended, Premier Zhou impatiently came to the residence of the KMT's peace talks.
He looked at Zhang Zhizhong, the Kuomintang representative in charge of the peace talks, and said sincerely: "Now that the peace talks are over, you don't want to go back to Nanjing, stay in Beijing, the people need you!" It's a pity that he was politely rejected by the other party.
A few days later, Chairman Mao came to the door again and invited Zhang Zhizhong to take up a post in the Central Committee, but this time he still declined.
So who is this Zhang Zhizhong who can get Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou to personally invite him to stay? What methods did we take to make Zhang Zhizhong change his mind?
On January 31, 1949, the People's Liberation Army held a grand ceremony to enter the city, and Beiping was peacefully liberated. Soon after, on 1 April, our party again held consultations in Peiping with a Kuomintang delegation sent by the Nanjing side on the matter of peace talks.
At that time, in order to delay time, the Kuomintang sent General Zhang Zhizhong, an old friend of our party, as a representative, and as a well-known "peace general," it can be said that Zhang Zhizhong spent almost the first half of his life running back and forth for the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.
As early as during the Chongqing negotiations, in order to ensure the safety of Chairman Mao and others, after Chairman Mao got off the plane, he stayed by his side every inch, and even rode in the same car with Chairman Mao to prevent Chiang Kai-shek's assassination.
Later, he took the initiative to vacate his mansion in Chongqing for Chairman Mao and others to live in, and transferred his cronies to the guard to be responsible for security protection.
Then, during the reorganization of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party in 1946, Zhang Zhizhong went to Yan'an three times to negotiate with our party, and was warmly received, and was called a friend of "three to Yan'an" by Chairman Mao, which shows the depth of the relationship between Zhang Zhizhong and our party.
And this time he came to Peking with the hope of peace, but what he didn't know was that Chiang Kai-shek sent him just to delay time.
On April 16, the Kuomintang delegation headed by Zhang Zhizhong and the Communist delegation led by Zhou Enlai finally reached a final revision of the "Domestic Peace Agreement" after difficult negotiations.
It is said that after this amendment was sent to Nanjing, Chiang Kai-shek angrily scolded: "Wenbai is incompetent, and he loses his power and humiliates the country." Subsequently, on April 20, 1949, the Kuomintang flagrantly rejected the "Internal Peace Agreement" and continued to wage war, so that the peace talks between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party were officially declared a failure.
On the day when the Kuomintang tore up the agreement, the People's Liberation Army began to cross the Yangtze River and occupied Nanjing in only one day.
As our party's representative in charge of the peace talks, Premier Zhou and Zhang Zhizhong are also old acquaintances; as early as the Huangpu period, Premier Zhou served as the director of the Ministry of Public Security, while Zhang Zhizhong served as the acting captain of the third batch of enlisted students and the head of the officer corps, and the two worked closely together and formed a deep friendship.
Therefore, when he learned that Zhang Zhizhong was going to return to the Kuomintang, he would take the initiative to persuade him, after all, the battle of crossing the river had ended, and the defeat of the Kuomintang was only a matter of time.
In the end, Premier Zhou also said to Zhang Zhizhong sincerely: "At the time of the Xi'an Incident, we were already sorry for a friend surnamed Zhang (referring to Zhang Xueliang), and we can't be sorry for you today." ”
After the Xi'an Incident, our party did not persuade Zhang Xueliang to be careful of Chiang Kai-shek's attack on him out of trust in Chiang Kai-shek, and as a result, Zhang Xueliang was placed under house arrest shortly after Chiang Kai-shek returned to Nanjing.
Now that Chiang Kai-shek's defeat has been decided, if Zhang Zhizhong goes back at this time, he will definitely be used as a scapegoat by Chiang Kai-shek and end up with the same fate as Zhang Xueliang, so he will so firmly persuade Zhang Zhizhong to stay in Beiping.
In the end, under the sincere persuasion of Premier Zhou and Chairman Mao, Zhang Zhizhong finally unloaded all his burdens and decided to stay in Beiping, and soon after Zhang Zhizhong made this decision, another plan of our party began to be carried out in full swing.
In order to completely calm Zhang Zhizhong, Premier Zhou urgently ordered the underground members lurking in Nanjing and Shanghai to get in touch with Zhang Zhizhong's family and quickly bring them to Beiping.
Soon after, the head of the underground party in Nanjing found Zhang Zhizhong's family and sent them to Shanghai, and then under the arrangement of the Shanghai underground organization, the family went to Shanghai Airport to prepare for a flight to Beiping.
At that time, because we were afraid of being discovered, we asked Zhang Zhizhong's wife to say that she was coming to the airport to receive guests from Lanzhou.
But who would have thought that even if we were so careful, something would happen in the end. Yu Feipeng, who was then the Minister of Communications of the Kuomintang, saw Mrs. Zhang Zhizhong take the initiative to come up to say hello.
Mrs. Zhang came to pick up the guests from Lanzhou according to the previous arrangement. Yu Feipeng was surprised and said: "There is no plane from Lanzhou today?" ”
Hearing this, everyone present was nervous, but fortunately, Mrs. Zhang sent Yu Feipeng away with her misremembered day, so as to avoid a disaster.
Soon after, the airport reported to Tang Enbo, who was stationed in Shanghai, that Zhang Zhizhong's family had left by plane, and Tang Enbo knew that Zhang Zhizhong had surrendered to the Communist Party.
He immediately angrily scolded Mao Sen, the intelligence chief in charge of Shanghai, for not even being able to see a plane, and Mao Sen proposed to immediately send a plane to pursue him.
And Tang Enbo directly scolded Mao Sen after hearing this: "What are you chasing when everyone is gone." ”
In fact, at that time, with the speed of the Kuomintang fighter, it was completely possible to catch up with this plane, but Tang Enbo and Zhang Zhizhong had a good relationship, so he directly rejected Mao Sen's request on the grounds that he could not catch up.
But what he didn't expect was that Mao Sen, who was scolded by him, was very unconvinced, and in order to atone for his crimes, he still sent a fighter plane to intercept it.
Unfortunately, due to Tang Enbo's obstruction, it was delayed for too long, and in the end, it was a step late. In this way, Zhang Zhizhong and his family were finally reunited in Beiping, and he completely settled down and chose to stay in our party.
In 1958, Chairman Mao called Zhang Zhizhong to go with him when he went out for inspection, and the two came to Nanjing on the way, and Jiang Weiqing, secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, personally greeted Chairman Mao and his party.
Chairman Mao seemed to remember something after seeing Jiang Weiqing, and he asked the other party with a smile: "Have you paid back the 3,000 yuan you borrowed from Mr. Wenbai back then!" ”
As soon as he heard this, Jiang Weiqing's face turned red instantly, it turned out that as early as 1939, he had asked Zhang Zhizhong, then chairman of Hunan Province, to borrow 3,000 yuan to go to resist Japan, and later forgot about it because of the war everywhere.
Now, when the chairman mentioned it again, he immediately remembered. Of course, the chairman didn't really want to ask him for any debts, but just wanted to make a joke between him and Zhang Zhizhong. The relationship between the chairman and Zhang Zhizhong can be seen from this.
