Recently, the thousand-acre fig orchard in Sunjiatun Village, Bolan Town, Jimo Duan, ushered in the harvest season, which is also the largest single planting base in the province. On September 10, when the reporter visited the park, he found that the orders from the vendors were continuous, and at the same time, it also drove the surrounding villagers to get rich. Picking starts at 3 a.m. and peaks at two tonnes a day
At about 6 o'clock in the morning of September 10, the reporter came to the fig base of Sunjiatun Village, Bolan Town, Jimo Duan. Seven or eight workers had already carried baskets and worked in the greenhouse for more than three hours. The reporter saw that some of the figs in the greenhouse were ripe, and some were still green. And the figs in the field are entering the harvest season one after another.
Unlike the green figs on the market, the ripe figs here are reddish in color and larger. "Generally four or five can reach a catty," said Wang Jiange, the head of the fig ecological base, which is a variety of Brooke red imported from abroad. After five or six years of exploration, they gradually mastered the cultivation technique. Now, the entire orchard has entered a bumper yield, about 4,000 catties per acre.
Manager Wang said that figs like high temperatures, and the greenhouses have begun to ripen in July, and enter the season of large-scale ripening in September, and can harvest 2 tons a day during the peak period. The harvest lasts about four months. The figs in the field only began to be marketed in September. However, the entire harvest season only lasts about one month. When cold air arrives, the figs will quickly wither and must be harvested and refrigerated.

They start picking at 3 a.m. and finish at 7 a.m. at the latest. Customers generally book two or three days in advance, and then pick up the goods in the morning and send them to the market as soon as possible.

Manager Wang said that their figs generally don't taste good until they are eight ripe. However, at this time, it is not resistant to transportation. As for fresh fruits, they are basically sold in the Qingdao market.
"Another reason is not to worry about selling," said Manager Wang, this variety of figs is large and has a good taste, and the people who come to order are old customers. Especially around the Mid-Autumn Festival, the daily output is not enough to sell. Customers need to place orders two or three days in advance to have enough figs left. Basically, when it got to the market, it was quickly sold out. Therefore, many citizens have never seen it in the market.
The market is not worried, and the benefits of planting are very good. "Excluding all kinds of costs, the net income of one acre of land is more than 20,000 yuan," said Manager Wang, who mainly produces figs from greenhouses. The planting of the field is greatly affected by the weather, and the annual yield is unstable, and he is also planning to increase the number of greenhouses as much as possible.
Drive the employment of the surrounding villagers at their doorsteps, and easily earn 40,000 yuan a year
Now the total area of the entire plantation is about 1,000 acres, the planting area of the greenhouse is 160 acres, and the rest are planted in the open air. The daily management and harvesting are all recruited from the surrounding villagers. At present, forty or fifty workers are needed for the entire plantation.
Manager Wang introduced that the labor intensity in the fig plantation is not large. For example, in the current picking season, you only need to work about 8 hours a day, and the daily salary is 130 yuan. In a year, I have to work for more than 10 months, and this job is relatively stable, with an income of more than 40,000 yuan.
In order to increase the added value, they also researched more than 20 types of products, such as preserved fruits, dried fruits, fruit wines, and fig tea. "Fig tea is a newly developed category, and because of the small quantity, it is now bought by friends," said Manager Wang, who said that the income of the entire fig orchard is very good, and there are also many customers from other places who come to learn technology. In the next step, he intends to convert figs from the department's fields into greenhouse cultivation. Although the cost will increase slightly, the fruit production period will be longer and the benefits will be better.
