On September 25, the launching ceremony of the 2024 "Silk Road E-commerce Day" and the "Silk Road E-commerce" Cooperation Resource Matchmaking Conference were held during the Hangzhou Digital Trade Fair. At the meeting, Zhang Qi, head of China's regional development of Amazon's global store, delivered a speech on "Selecting New Blue Oceans, Convenient Expansion". She pointed out that at present, Amazon has opened 19 sites for Chinese sellers, enabling Chinese sellers to sell their products to more than 200 countries and regions around the world through Amazon, reaching hundreds of millions of consumers around the world and more than 6 million corporate and institutional buyers.
"In addition to being a top-ranked e-commerce website in developed markets such as United States, Europe, and Japan, Amazon is also an important e-commerce website in many emerging markets." Zhang Qi said that Amazon's emerging markets include Mexico, Brazil, the Middle East, as well as India and Australia. In these places of great potential, Amazon provides sellers with a lot of tools to easily reach high-quality consumers.
According to Zhang Qi, Amazon entered the Middle East market through the acquisition of local e-commerce platform Souq, and opened investment services to Chinese sellers in 2019 (U.A.E.) and 2020 (Saudi Arabia) respectively. In 2023, Amazon announced the "10,000 Stores Set Sail" plan for the Middle East site, hoping to help at least 10,000 Chinese sellers enter the Middle East site every year in the next three years.
The following is a transcript of Zhang Qi's speech:
Distinguished leaders, distinguished guests, partners from afar, good afternoon! I'm Qi Zhang, Head of China Regional Development of Amazon Global Selling, and I'm honored to be invited to participate in this conference today.
China's cross-border e-commerce has been booming over the past few years. We see that the willingness, ability and timing of Chinese enterprises to go overseas are ripe today. On the other hand, the global e-commerce retail market is still growing rapidly, which also provides a broader space for cross-border enterprises to find business opportunities.
Next, I will share with you Amazon's global strategic layout, our site, especially in emerging markets (such as the Middle East) various policies, I hope it will be helpful to you.
As a world-renowned e-commerce website, Amazon has opened 19 sites for Chinese sellers, enabling Chinese sellers to easily sell their products to more than 200 countries and regions around the world through Amazon, reaching hundreds of millions of consumers around the world, including more than 200 million high-quality paid Prime members, and reaching more than 6 million corporate and institutional buyers. At the same time, Amazon provides consumers with more convenient services through more than 400 fulfillment centers around the world.
It has been nearly 10 years since Amazon launched a global store to enter the Chinese market. In 2023, Chinese sellers will perform very well on the Amazon platform: the number of Chinese sellers with sales of more than $1 million has increased by more than 25%, the number of Chinese sellers with sales of more than $10 million has increased by nearly 30% year-on-year, 80% of the surveyed sellers believe that Amazon is their preferred channel for going overseas, and many sellers operate on Amazon on multiple sites.
We focus all of our businesses on five strategic priorities, of which "Driving Global Expansion" is closely related to the development of the emerging sites we are talking about today.
As you know, in addition to being the top e-commerce website in developed countries such as United States, Europe, and Japan, Amazon is also an important e-commerce website in many emerging markets.
Amazon's emerging e-commerce markets refer to Mexico, Brazil, the Middle East (including U.A.E. and Saudi Arabia), as well as India and Australia. For most Chinese sellers, these emerging markets are in the spotlight for several reasons: first, these markets have huge potential; Second, Amazon has a leading market share in these markets, so sellers can reach local high-quality consumers by entering Amazon; Third, Amazon provides sellers with a lot of tools, which can make it easy for sellers to reach consumers on multiple sites.
Let's focus on the relationship between Amazon and the Middle East market. We entered the Middle East market through the acquisition of the local e-commerce platform Souq, which quickly became the largest local platform, because Souq has a very strong local consumer awareness, is very aware of the shopping preferences of local consumers, and also has a good logistics infrastructure and other infrastructure. After Amazon entered the Middle East market, it also opened its investment promotion services to Chinese sellers in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
In 2023, Amazon announced the "10,000 Stores Set Sail" plan for the Middle East site, hoping to help at least 10,000 Chinese sellers enter the Middle East market every year in the next three years.
Let's take a look at the environment in the Middle East. As mentioned earlier, emerging sites have always attracted the attention of the majority of sellers, and the Middle East market is particularly prominent in it. There are some characteristics to emphasize, for example, the consumer group in the Middle East market is relatively young, the consumption capacity is strong, and the growth rate of e-commerce is also very fast, which makes the seller's profit performance in the Middle East market usually better.
Amazon has a relatively leading market share in the Middle East, so we also have good local insights. At the same time, in order to help Chinese sellers enter the Middle East market more easily, we also provide a lot of seller assistance policies, including shared monthly rent, low commission, storage fees, high customer unit price, etc., which can also help sellers clear obstacles when entering the Middle East market. In addition, through the U.A.E. export program, Amazon enables sellers to sell to multiple countries on one site, making it easier to enter the Middle East.
Here is a cross-border e-commerce industry insight report exported to the Middle East, if you want to know more, you can scan the QR code at the top of the screen. There are several important sectors in this: the first is the opportunity for China's export cross-border e-commerce; The second is the trend insight of online consumption in the Middle East; The third is an overview of the e-commerce opportunities in the Middle East. We hope to help you establish a panoramic understanding of the Middle East market through a more detailed report based on our analysis of consumer trends and consumer portraits in the Middle East market in recent years, as well as the estimation of consumer purchase preferences and future prospects.
We also provide a lot of successful cases, which can help Chinese sellers to understand the potential and consumers of the Middle East market, and be able to target and plan ahead according to their own situation.
Finally, I wish this Digital Trade Fair a success, and hope that more excellent brands and excellent enterprises can take advantage of the situation to settle in Amazon, thank you!
